Life is no Rubik cube. At least I find it difficult to fix every aspect in its exact place. My life is a kaleidoscope, where joy and sorrow twirl together in a colorful mixture. So I walk. I walk through life and I walk through the fields surrounding my little town. Some steps take me closer to love ones, some steps are a mistake, but that’s life.

Growing up
when I was younger we didn’t have cellphones, game systems or even TVS to keep us busy. “Come home when the street lights turn on” is what my mom would always say to my sister and I. In the summer, from the moment we woke up until at least dinner we were outside playing with our friends, making mud pies or making forts. That was our form of entertainment. We also grew up in a “low income” family or as some like to call it “poor” we had toys dont get me wrong; but they were basic toys, we didn’t mind, we had our imagination and we were happy.

Do you cover your chips when eating? I think not. Are you ashamed to be seen drinking a drink? Again i think not. There is a culture of being uncomfortable that shadows breast feeding, the glares from both men and women is highly annoying. Babies are people and just like everyone else they need feeding, if i chose to whip my boob out then i should receive a well done. It is funny when someone hears a baby crying in public the first comment that comes out of a mouth is "is she not going to feed the baby". Becoming a mother is a hard enough job as is, let alone being a mother to a child of a different race. As a Caucasian woman I’ve never had to personally experience racism. However, my boyfriend of five years is Puerto Rican, and he has experienced prejudice throughout his life. I believe as a whole that white people are out of touch with the fact that racism is still very much alive in America. Of course, a group of people who don’t experience racism aren’t going to see that it is still an ongoing issue. It can be hard to relate to something you’ve never witnessed first hand.
