She's my Elleeanna
Born on Valentine's Day of 2009, Elleeanna came with unimaginable challenges. At first, when she was 11 months old and still unable to sit up on her own along with not even trying to make any sounds, I became worried. At her check-up, I asked the doctor, almost every visit until the doctor finally referred her to an ENT, little did I know that was just the beginning of our long journey. The test showed some abnormality and she needed further testing.

The wonder of a Mother's Love
Where would we be without our mothers . I know I feel lost many times a day without Mine . Mum passed away mid 2019 from dementia related causes . But that was after she had lived a life so well that when she had no more to give she slowly retired into herself because I think she had already left us in her mind.

The Endangered Species
In light of the current events, I MUST exercise my voice for the community of black mothers and fathers raising black boys. I want to remind all of you that you have the power to empower our children with the gift of identity. It is said that "if you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the results of a hundred battles...". No matter what the unlearned society may try to label them, our children must know who they are: Kings, Queens, and Heroes, by showing them who they are not: victims and villains. This is for you and yours...

Part of a story I wrote
River woke with a smile on her face every morning. It wasn't always that way though and made it a point to be happy. She moved from New York to Florida to be with a guy she thought she was in love with, but she was wrong. Screw that she learned her lesson in that department.

Help me with My Mom!
Where to begin...and where will it end. It's the anxiety of life and for me right now with so many paths left unanswered I'm especially lost. I want my mom to help me get through this hard time but she's actually one of the paths left unanswered as we aren't on speaking terms right now. I have pretty much always had a tense relationship with my mom as long as I can remember and now that I've gone through a divorce myself I understand more where it comes from. It's tough to go through let's just say I don't want to get into all of it because well there's a lot...but it's hard to go through and it affects relationships especially with children. And I think it's actually easy to see in life because it creates pain which leads to acting differently then we might have had we not been hurt. I think it makes sense the different lives people end up living and so much makes sense when you hear their childhood. We all know how important those years are but don't realize how much it affects our entire lives.

One step forward and Two steps back
I know that everyone has heard the phrase “One step forward, two steps back”. Well lately that phrase alone explains my life. To be honest, I am struggling. I am at the point in my life where I thought I would be settled down, with kids, a stable job, finishing or finished with college, and a sense of stability. However, I am in the middle of a divorce, I only have visitation of my kids, I am about 1/3 of the way done with my bachelor’s and still need to get my Masters degree. There is no stability in my life. In fact, or the last 4 years more life changing thing shave happened then I would really like to admit. Is this the new normal for my generation? I am not sure. I look at my aunts, uncles, parents, and even grandparents and I see marriages that have lasted twenty plus years and how settled they were at such a young age. Then I look at my life and the lives of my friends. I just cannot seem to figure out if it is something that we are doing wrong or if it is the way of the world now days. This year alone, I have personally heard from friends and family or more than 4 divorces and for the friends that chose to date or stay engaged for the last 5-7 years: break-ups. I wish I had the answers. I wish that I knew how to be that stable and happy women I dreamed of being as a kid. Right now, all I am is a struggling adult who puts on a happy and confident face more than 85% of the day. I am sure that at least some of you know how that feels and please if any of you know the answers feel free to share.

Fathers, Bikes, and Black Eyes
It was the summer before first grade, in a deserted, hot parking lot. That parking lot just so happened to be my school’s, River Springs Elementary. I had just learned to ride a bike without training wheels the day before and I was actually pretty good at it for learning the day before.

A First Time Mom
I thought I was living my life to the fullest, I had the world in my hands, I never thought the real joy and happiness in life is having such a beautiful baby girl. That's what they called her; nurses and doctors, not having picked out a name for her yet. But, before I start I have to go the beginning, how my life was changed from just this beautiful experience I never thought would happen, especially not at 20 years of age. My life wasn't great, my childhood wasn't perfect, and the many horrible things my siblings and I endured are beyond belief. Although life wasn't great it did take time and it was on the right track, at the age of 18 I grew up and put all my nonsense behind me.
