70s music
The 1970s were all about sex, drugs and rock and roll; Beat welcomes you to our Disco Inferno.
Fifty Years to "Take Me Home"
At 16 I started writing songs. It was 1976, and I had just bought my first Panasonic portable tape recorder with money I earned from odd jobsβhanging advertisements for a local realtor and tutoring a dyslexic kid after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A Song Of Vocal Tales
Introduction Almost every piece I publish on Vocal has a piece of music to go with it. I used to have a Facebook page called "For Everything In My Life There Is A Song" and very often when I read stories, a song or piece of music will come to mind.

What the REAL Michael Jackson Meant to Me.
Hello one and all - again. My earliest memory of ever listening to a Michael Jackson record was roughly in 1978 when I was 6 years old and a song on the radio kept telling me to "Shicya butty don to a gruhhh!" all the while telling me also to "dance and shout". Little did I realize that I would soon be introduced to musical greatness at such an early age. The following year, 1979, another song kept singing the refrain: "Piddo. Witta buss do stow; don' stop tuh get a mop" in such a high falsetto voice, I almost thought I was hearing a Bee Gees song in fast forward. However, once my family embraced the Seventh-day Adventist church, my secular radio days were over, and I was forced to listen to interminable songs about the "Love of Jesus" and stuff like that.

An Anatomical Playlist
The Intro I was listening to some songs, and "Magic Man" by Heart came on. I thought that could be an interesting theme for a playlist, featuring parts of the body in either the song title or the band name. I will probably miss a lot, but I am just going to dive in and see where this takes me.

Pigs
Introduction I am not sure what inspired this, but there are more than a few good songs about pigs. As a teenager, I worked on a farm and thought it was quite funny when the piglets tried to eat my toes through my wellies and we all love the film Babe, don't we?

A Plagiaristic Playlist
Introduction There are many songs that borrow from others, some acknowledge their source, and some donβt. Some are deliberate and some are accidental. These are some that I have noticed over my life and you may agree with me or disagree with me, some are obvious and some are a little harder to discern but hopefully, you will enjoy all of them. All of the songs are excellent it;s up to you whether or not you agree with me, but hopefully, this will spur some commentary.

Do Vinyl Records Inspire Original Creation?
About Vinyl Records This piece is going to be an oddity because a couple of songs came to mind that I wanted to share, but there were not enough songs to create a playlist. Below is my history of recorded media that you may find interesting as it has some of my opinions, but I have recently complained that the sole attempt at originality for modern vinyl releases is colored vinyl of picture discs, which while they can be interesting, most of the time that is where it stops.

Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead - Some Warren Zevon
Introduction I first was vaguely exposed to Warren Zevon when someone mentioned the song "Excitable Boy" but I really didn't bother with him til I was working for Yorkshire Water in Bradford and I picked up a "Best Of " album and the song "Play It All Night Long" hit me like a flying house brick:
