A Playlist Of Songs That Reference Pigs

Introduction

I am not sure what inspired this, but there are more than a few good songs about pigs. As a teenager, I worked on a farm and thought it was quite funny when the piglets tried to eat my toes through my wellies and we all love the film Babe, don't we?

The image I created is based on the cover for Pink Floyd's "Animals" album, a favourite of mine, that was a result of the inflatable pig becoming unhooked from its moorings, but resulted in some iconic images.

The album contains three songs about pigs an opening and closing acoustic piece "Pigs On The Wing" and the opener to side two "Pigs (Three Different Ones)". I will bookend this playlist with "Pigs On The Wing".

Animals By Pink Floyd

A Playlist Of Pigs

Pink Floyd - "Pigs On The Wing (Part One)" from "Animals"

A depressing opener to the album, but it's what you expect from Roger Waters sometimes. Don't let it put you off, though the album is vicious, categorising the human race as either Dogs, Pigs, or Sheep.

Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come - "Night Of The Pigs" from "Galactic Zoo Dossier"

A bit of psychedelic silliness here. The album features one song that soundtracks the album finishing and the playing arm resetting itself, and when you went to change it, it was still playing. A madly fun album.

Robert Wyatt - "Pigs (In There)" from "EPs"

This is a very disturbing piece where Robert tells us about pigs being kept in terrible conditions. If you listen to this it will stay with you, it is mostly the title being repeated but this could be any number of animals. Here it is pigs.

Nine Inch Nails - "Piggy"

This was suggested by Zara, more ominous Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails darkness for you

Pink Floyd - "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" from Animals

Rather than the official Pink Floyd YouTube video I found this one that uses footage from the film of George Orwell's "Animal Farm". The three pigs are businessman, politician and puritan moral guardian and all are explained in this Wikipedia entry.

Pink Fairies - "Pigs Of Uranus" from "What A Bunch Of Sweeties"

Another piece of absolute hoedown silliness from The Pink Fairies who usually play hard rock and heavy metal. Don't buy an album if you are expecting more of this, but it is funny.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - "The Wizard and the Seven Swines"

I was going to include this band because of their name, but I found a song that references swine so it fits the playlist.

Green Jelly - "Three Little Pigs"

Some metal silliness here. It fits the playlist but is not in my record collection but is quite an amusing listen.

Cypress Hill - "Pigs"

Shall we just say that this is not about pigs that you see on a pig farm?

Black Sabbath - "War Pigs" from "Paranoid"

Very dark and heavy metal from one of the masters of the genre. I love the way that the songs are so simple to play, no virtuoso guitar work from Tony Iomii, just perfect riffs to grind you under the music's iron wheels.

Nine Inch Nails - "March Of The Pigs" from "All That Could Have Been"

A live take on this but it still takes no prisoners, much as you would expect from Trent Reznor.

Pink Floyd - "Pigs On The Wing (Part Two)" from "Animals"

A more upbeat closer to the album than the opener that "Sheep" segues into.

I hope you have enjoyed this selection of porcine-related music. You have probably heard or know some, and others will be a mystery, but these are all in my collection apart from the Green Jelly song.

I have heard a few...and I want to hear that PF re-release very soon (the exhibition in Montréal was incredible)!

Some great songs! Although I was hoping to see ‘Piggy’ from Nine Inch Nails. ‘March of the Pigs’ is a good one too.

  • I enjoyed a few of these, but for the most part..., ...if I didn't feel like killing myself before, I do now, lol.
