Miles at 100
Today would have been Miles Davis's one-hundredth birthday had he lived to see it, and I have some thoughts... I am a fan, and I think that he may be the one jazz musician who does not make too many fans out there feel uncomfortable admitting that they love jazz. Yes, I love John Coltrane and his blistering style and influence over modern music, but Miles is the one whose albums and attitude I always return to...

Strangely Groovy
Introduction In the story below Caroline Jane did an Oliver Twist and asked for more. This is it. I wasn't to sure how to write something new and interesting about music. Caroline and I are fans of Nigel Blackwell and Half Man Half Biscuit, so I will try to include something from them in here but I hope that everyone discovers at least one thing they didn't know when they read this piece.

'Carl and the Passions. (So Tough)'
With the departure of Bruce Johnston, South African guitarist Blondie Chaplin formerly of "The Flame" was brought into the Beach Boys to fill the sixth member slot as well as give the band more of an edgy guitar sound. Back On The Road
Introduction In the playlist above, my friend Harper Lewis asked why I hadn't included "Road To Nowhere" by The Talking Heads. The main reason was that the song is so well-known, but it is a brilliant song. Then I looked at the CDs on my desk and remembered I had missed an absolutely brilliant Tom Waits song.

On The Road
Introduction There are thousands of songs that mention the word "Road" in the title, and I will try and stay away from the obvious such as Canned Heat's iconic "On The Road Again" but when I did my "Runaway Train" playlist I found ten songs with that title. These wont't all have the same same title.

Top of the World
American vocal and instrumental duo The Carpenters were a brother and sister duo, Richard and Karen Carpenter. Their musical career lasted 14 years, and they recorded 10 albums. With over 100 million records sold worldwide, they were the best-selling music artists of all time.
