70s music
The 1970s were all about sex, drugs and rock and roll; Beat welcomes you to our Disco Inferno.

Remembering Robbie Robertson
All his music is here Introduction I was shocked to hear that Robbie Robertson died yesterday after a long illness. He was another incredible Canadian musician responsible for many of the sounds that people would think were pure Americana. You can read more about the great man on his Wikipedia page here.

Picture These Discs
Introduction I was reading the Taschen "1000 Record Covers" to enjoy the images and maybe get some inspiration for my writing. In the middle of the 1970s section, I saw the pages that I used to head this article. I had always assumed that Picture Discs were first produced in the nineteen-sixties, and I thought I had a copy of the first one, but no, apparently the first ones appeared in the nineteen-forties:

Songs Sequenced
Introduction I was listening to a "Best Of" Nils Lofgren, and one of the final songs is "Secrets In The Street", which I have always loved. Lofgren is a brilliant guitarist and songwriter who has played extensively with Bruce Springsteen.

Black Music Month Celebrates: Michael Jackson
I honestly have no idea how to begin writing an article that is a tribute to the greatest star to ever walk the face the earth. So I guess Iβll keep it simple and cliche. Happy Black Music Month to the one, the only, Michael Jackson.

The Is Jah Wobble
Introduction Apparently, Jah Wobble's stage name came because John Lydon could not pronounce the name John Wardle properly and slurred it into becoming Jah Wobble. I loved his dub-based bass playing with Public Image but then when he left he looks to have tackled every music genre you can think of and a lot that you can't think of.

Music About Musicians By Musicians
Introduction Dexy's Midnight Runners came on the radio covering Van Morrison's "Jackie Wilson Said" and I thought could I put together a playlist of songs or band singing about other singers or bands. We obviously have something to kick off this one and another has just come into my head, bands named after songs, but that can wait awhile.

The Buzz
Introduction What is it with flies and wasps? Are they just there to annoy us? I've had a couple in the house over the last few days, so I open windows and doors to let them out, and then what happens? They keep banging against the window or me.

A New Wave Tarot Playlist #1
Introduction I always thought that the phrase New Wave was a dilution of the Punk ethic to make it more palatable for market consumption. Sort of when they learned to play they weren't punk anymore but they were New Wave. Cβest La Vie

This Playlist Is Murder
Introduction I had used Graham Parker's "They Murdered The Clown" in a recent Seven Days In post that you can read below, and then thought maybe I could to a Clown related playlist to share on Vocal, but just at the moment no decent Clown or Circus related songs are coming to mind apart from the Graham Parker song.
