The History of Costa Rica
In 1502, when Christopher Columbus landed in Puerto Limon, less than 20 indigenous tribes occupied the lands in what is now, Costa Rica. The golden bands that the region's Carib Indians wore as earrings and nose rings inspired the Columbus and his crew to name the country, "Costa Rica", meaning, "Rich Coast". Columbus's arrival ultimately led to the eradication of these native populations as exotic diseases and fatal battles took their toll.

The Toucans of Costa Rica
Perhaps the most well-known tropical bird, the toucan, is a symbol of playfulness and intelligence known by children the world over. They are highlighted on many a cereal box and candy wrapper! From a marketing standpoint, the vibrant colors on the box immediately direct the child's eye and when the child starts pointing and yelling at the top of their lungs, usually a sale is made! It's as simple as that!

The Story Behind Gallo Pinto
Have you tried Gallo Pinto? If not, then you’re missing out on a staple food here in Costa Rica! Gallo Pinto is the national dish of Costa Rica, consisting of beans and rice. Sometimes it is topped with scrambled or fried eggs, I like two fried eggs on mine.. and Salsa Lizano, the latter which is a favorite condiment of Ticos. Gallo Pinto is simple and nourishing. With that said, you can always kick it up a notch with some meat, pica (hot sauce) & a few hot peppers.
