Costa Rica. . the beach. . a hammock. . a good book to read. . Pura Vida. .

All you need is a beach. . Costa Rica surely has many from which to choose. A hammock. . you can buy one here for less than $50. A good book to read. . bring one along with you. Pura Vida. . oh yea, man! Life is wonderful here in one of the happiest countries on the planet and THIS is what it's all about!

With over 800 miles of coastline, it is not hard to find a hidden beach somewhere that will serve as a backdrop for your perfect day in paradise! I would even venture to say that you will probably never find anything as stress-free in your entire lifetime as enjoying some real quality downtime in a such a wonderful, relaxing, prone position!

Hammocks have a very long history of providing shelter and a place to rest. How did this come to be? Who actually made the first hammock and how did they get the idea?

The word, “hammock”, originated from a Mayan word that actually means “fish net”. Traditional hammocks originated in Central America, and can be traced back nearly 1,200 years ago to the Mayan civilization.

Originally, hammocks were not designed for leisure, but instead served as protection. The suspended beds safely kept people away from dangerous creatures and insects in the hot, tropical climates.

Christopher Columbus and his sailing crew are credited with bringing hammocks to Europe after observing their widespread use among the Taino people of the Bahamas. During Spain’s colonial period, both cotton and canvas were brought to the Americas and began to be incorporated into the hammock design we know today.

What a life some people have set themselves up to enjoy. I know of a few individuals who actually spend the entire day, 7 days a week, lying around, either on a beach or at home. I personally think this situation is when it is not 'special' anymore! But, of course, that is no business of mine. Getting back to enjoying a morning at a beach. .

When one thinks of the hectic lives most everyone leads or has lead throughout their lifetime, it is nice to know that there is a special place, a sanctuary of sorts, that helps to get your mind and your body back to where it is supposed to be. To be suspended in air, with the sounds of nature around you, is to realize that there is indeed a goal. . an 'exit strategy' towards which to work. My father always told me when I was young that one must always have something to look forward to. That keeps excitement in one's life and give us all a reason to continue at the fast pace that is usually necessary to create a quality life for ourselves.

Every year in the USA, over 125,000 people lose their lives to excess stress. In addition, in 2019, over 112 million people are known to have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. High blood pressure costs the nation $47.5 billion annually in direct medical expenses. Another $3.5 billion is attributed to lost productivity each year. These are staggering figures and surely need to be addressed. A combination of medicine and a drastic change in lifestyle can and does save lives. A huge part of taking control of this problem is to have a plan of action. I submit to you that a vacation on a beach in Costa Rica would probably do wonders in helping one lower their blood pressure numbers, highly reduce stress & recharge one's batteries! Wouldn't you agree? Of course, you would!

Hammocks play an important part in providing a direct route back to your sanity! First, lying in a hammock greatly reduces stress. Due to their natural swaying motion, hammocks can help you relax, lower blood pressure and reduce those very high stress levels in the body. It doesn't get much more relaxing than hanging midair in your hammock, looking up at the beautiful blue sky, looking out and seeing those ocean whitecaps, listening to the surf hit the beach and enjoying the great outdoors.

To take it a step further, many scientific studies have actually proven that hammocks not only assist you in getting to sleep faster, but also they help you enjoy a much deeper sleep. The natural rocking motion of the hammock helps you drop into a deeper REM sleep and can also help tremendously with stubborn bouts of insomnia.

At the beach, at home, camping or anywhere you are able set one up, it turns out that the simple hammock has many positives that certainly outweigh the negatives. In fact, it has been discovered that napping at work has proven to increase one's productivity. For those who are at work for over 8 hours, a quick 30-minute nap is the key differentiator in a productive vs non-productive state of mind. Many of the high-tech, global companies, such as Google, Facebook & Twitter utilize hammocks routinely to increase the productivity of their tens of thousands of workers! But for the rest of us, GOOD LUCK in talking your boss into setting up this scenario for you!

If I was a doctor, I would definitely write you a prescription for 1 hammock every morning for 4 hours at a time for 14 days straight. I know that would cure you and make you feel much better!
