A reflection of my life
Reflections of my life was a Vietnam era song sung by the Marmalades. It was one of my favorite songs and still is. This song states that moonlight to sunrise that there are reflections of my life. But as I have aged I too am beginning to reflect on my life and what it has been. I am sixty years old, but the artist singing this song wrote it when he was fifteen.

The joys of summer
I can't believe it is almost September. Summer where have you gone? Soon we will be having frost on the pumpkin, first freezes then snow. But again what happened to summer? The long hot days, the cool nights. The singing of a whipper will in the trees, or the sight of the cardinal in flight? What happened to nice home grown tomatoes, watermelon, and strawberries? The walking outside to see the dew on the ground. I also like the occasional evening thunderstorm to cool down a hot day. That is such good sleeping weather.

One of the best war miniseries ever
I have a deep love of history. The wars, the settling of America, but my biggest area of history that I love to study is the Holocaust ERA. There have been many great movies about this time period, The Hiding Place, Schindlers List, Valkyrie, Silent Night just to name a few. Also, give that my grandmother is half Dutch and half German really adds to the mystery. Had I known that the city I was stationed in is where my German ancestors hailed from, I would have spent more time learning about them.

Afghanistan Failure, Vietnam 2.0
The break down of security and safety for the citizens of Afghanistan has me concerned. As I watched bodies fall from the airplane on Monday, it brought to mind another tragic day, September 11. I have many friends from that area of the world, whose families are still there. Today, a military cargo flight with 823 passengers took off from Kabul, now departures are halted because the refugee centers are full.

I feel my calling, Let It Be
As I have watched this year go by, I have been paying more attention to issues surrounding LGBTQ youth. I am paying closer attention to the mistreatment of those you who identify as gay ( I will use this term instead of LGBTQ) throughout the article. There is no malice intended, nor insults or disrespect. I am in the same community and with me having cellulitis in my eyes and eye sockets even writing this article is difficult.

My favorite teacher
It was the beginning of school year in 1971. I was one of thirty children in Mrs. Judson's fourth grade class. Mrs. Judson was a middle aged black woman. She had heard all of the stories of me coming to school battered and bruised. She, like my previous teachers was under orders to send me to the principals office with any new bruise or injury.

Why Soccer Fans Misbehave
In Denver, they found the person who threw the frozen bottle of water that hit an American player in the head. He has been permanently banned from attending any event at the Broncos stadium. I feel that is justifiable. During this match the referee had to stop the game for three minutes because the Mexican fans were chanting a homophobic phrase. But why is this still happening in 2021? Because of the behavior of the fans from Mexico, they have to play their next two World Cup qualifiers at home in an empty stadium. The fans that do behave at the matches are suffering for the actions of the unruly.

When Things Go Wrong At 35,000 Feet
It is something we think will never happen to us. It is safer to fly now than ever. But is it really? Those of us who work the industry knows there can be sever turbulence which can cause severe injuries. We pray that we see that aircraft back from it's flight. We worry about the passengers and crew getting to their destination safely. We worry about the children flying alone and no one to cling to in scary moments. We have had some scary moments the last several years involving aviation disasters or near disasters.

This is the best one so far
In this video this lovely young boy told his father he was gay. I have seen many videos where the parents blow up at their child, yet again kick them out of the house. The father in video did everything in my opinion the right way. He asked non threatening questions like are you sure? When that was confirmed he sits on the bed next to his son and starts talking to him. He does as a father giving advice to his young son, while showing his son he loves and supports him. This is lovely and just what this boy needed at that time. You could tell he was nervous and even backed himself into a little corner.

Forty Hour Week
We always seem to focus on the misbehavior of individuals in their industry. The rude agent, or the nasty sales clerk, perhaps the angry cop you met along the way. We have them in all professions and the biggest complaint if the airline industry. Yes we have rude agents there, but when you put up with the crap we do on a daily basis, then it is understandable. But what about those who go above and beyond? Customers can be just as rude with the agents and I've been cussed out by many a customer. There is bull shit to be dealt with at every job level known to man. We don't even think about reporting that story. You will see some of them here.

Why are Mexico's Fans Rowdy?
As I sit here looking over the field of play, the game long over, the green grass still in my cleats, with grass stains on my uniform. I look over at my opponents who are very good in themselves. They look impressive in their green uniforms. They have dominated us in the past, beaten us at every turn. But this year was different, we beat Mexico a month ago in Denver and the fans of Mexico didn't like it so they threw items at us, one of our players was hit in the side of the head with a frozen bottle of water.
