Diary of a Single Woman
11-28 Dear Dairy, If you read my last entry, you’ll know that I’m in New York for Thanksgiving. So far, I’m loving it. Everyone is familiar with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, and it was exciting to sit on the sidelines and watch it live instead of on a screen. I’m not sure how long this holiday tradition will last, but at least I can say I am one of the few people to actually sit and watch it live before it ended (if it ever ends).

Anniversary Dinner
Trisha ran through the glass door of the Italian restaurant. She knew she was already late for the dinner and was feeling completely apologetic about her tardiness to the meet up with her girlfriends again. She made her way through the labyrinth of tables to her group. She was happy to see them all there waiting for her arrival.

It’s Gonna be a Dark Christmas
Happy holidays! As the holiday season falls upon us, we are bombarded by songs, treats and more importantly (at least to film lovers) holiday movies. If you know me in real life, you might say that I am not exactly the “sunshine and rainbows” type of person. Those close to me are fully aware of my dark sense of humor and I am fortunate they are accepting of it. That being said, the end of the year can be beyond my level of appreciation. Nonetheless, I do have a small list I personally deem as my “holiday” films and I am sure I am not the only one who would enjoy this list of films to bless them with holiday cheer (even if the films themselves are not very “cheery”).

Diary of a Single Woman
11-26 Dear Diary, My past two entries (Entry 3 and Entry 2) have been focused on trying to get into a romantic relationship, today I think I need to shift gears and focus on something else (especially to get my mind off of depressing relationships). One of the perks of being single is the ability to pack up and fly away for the weekend whenever I want (pending financial funds). I don’t have to ask anyone where to go, or collaborate with a significant other on an itinerary. I am bold enough to fly to a different city on my own and create an adventure, or I can invite a few girlfriends for a girl’s trip to relax and unwind from the craziness of everyday life. During the Thanksgiving weekend I decided to just get away, alone.

Giving Thanks in 2021
Greetings Readers! Depending on where you’re reading my story, here in America Thursday (November 25, 2021) is Thanksgiving. While the truth behind the holiday has become a controversy, most Americans like to use it as a day to just give thanks. I would like to believe giving thanks has become the modern tradition rather than the history behind the holiday (which I am not going to go into). How one celebrates this day also varies, but for me, it has rarely been a holiday I enjoyed throughout my adult life.

Diary of a Single Woman
Nov. 17 Dear Diary, So, I have been thinking about my last entry regarding Jay. I know it was wrong to slap the poor guy, I mean, he didn’t really deserve, right? He was just doing what he felt was in the atmosphere between us. It didn’t merit the reaction it had. Needless to say, (more like: obvious to say) I haven’t heard from him since that night. I don’t expect to either. We didn’t exchange contact information and only absolutely crazy men would go looking for women on social media after she slapped him into a different orbital system.

The Multi-Legged Menace
It’s the middle of the night and you are deep in slumber. Better yet, you are having one of the best dreams you have ever had. Suddenly, the dream fades away and you find yourself awake, staring around in darkness, wondering what outside force has interfered with the wondrous state of euphoria? The answer comes in the form of minute drumming over a piece of paper you have carelessly left lying on the floor. The inquiry of why paper would be making an REM disturbing sound plagues your mind, and fear invades your thoughts because you know the only sound to match that is a tiny multi-legged terror. Slowly reaching for your lamp, you flick it on to reveal if your fears have manifested into the reality you hope it isn’t. The bright blinding beam shines directly over the floor where the paper lies helplessly and just inches away from it, confirming exactly what you thought, is the multi-legged arthropod known as: centipedes.

Annie’s Apparition
The full moon reflected brightly off the dark waters of the ocean, as the waves gently washed upon the shores on the empty beach. The sun wasn’t even up in the early dawn of morning with the brisk fall air. The ocean wave machine temporarily in the off position, not even surfers were interested in coming to the beach. Fishermen were already out to sea earning their profits for the day. Annie was aware of ocean-lovers’ schedules and it was the primary reason for her coming to the desolated beach. She did not want to be around anyone. She wanted to be alone. Alone with her thoughts. Her memories.

Diary of a Single Woman
October 29, 2021 Dear Diary, I just realized in my last entry I didn’t add a date. How am I supposed to keep track of my thoughts if I don’t add dates? What a ding-dong, right? Well, with halloween coming, I suppose I’ll spin a tale of a halloween romantic adventure. What do you think? Especially since our spook season is still burden with a pandemic.

Diary of a Single Woman
Dear Diary, Welcome to my diary of being single. I know it seems strange to write a full blown diary about living as a single person. I mean, what types of adventures can I possible have? Why would my mundane lifestyle make for entertainment reading? It’s not like I have a boyfriend who annoys me, or I’m married to someone I butt heads with every single day.

Myers’s Return for More
The crisp air of autumn gentle covers the neighborhood as brown leaves rest on the streets. Kids are dressed up for trick or treating on a night when they should remain safely at home in the “not so quiet town” of Haddonfield. Haddonfield is haunted by a dark history and the night of costumed fun is the one night when no one is safe. On this night the maleficent Michael Myers emerges from a flame engulfed house and continues on with his quest: to kill as many people as he can. But for what? Is it to finish off what he started with Laurie, the original character from the first films dating back to 1978 (played by Jamie Lee Curtis, yes even today)? To finally put an end to her? Or is there a deeper reason for his slashing spree? In Halloween Kills, we find out the motive behind Michael and learn more about the evolving history of the Halloween film saga.

Dave Chappelle vs. LGBTQ
Comedians have been using marginalized races and gender as a punchline since the beginning of comedy. For example, earlier works of comedy featured blackface to poke fun at African Americans and comedic males would often cross-dress to mock women. Even today we have drag stars that have become gender impersonators for entertainment. Because this seems to have become the norm of modern comedy, the question is: when does comedy no longer become comedy? More importantly, when do we stop mocking a marginalized group for a quick laugh?
