Where Do You Find Your Inner Peace?

In a Fractured World

Our world is fractured and suffering. The environment is crumbling as global warming does its best to destroy the planet. There is trauma and fear everywhere.

Fear breathes unrest and inevitably leads to chaos.

The news channels are bursting with harrowing events of death and misery from all corners of the world.

The constant threat of imminent doom that global warming is leaving in its wake is a sobering reality for us to change our ways.

Some days I find it impossible to avoid all human suffering because of world events.

There is almost never any good news from anywhere, but I know that there is goodness in this world. I have experienced it. Peace and harmony exist between people all over the world.

So why do we never hear about it?

It's because traumatic events sell better than happiness.

What a world we live in! A world that reports only tragedy and misery to the detriment of happiness and beauty.

It shouldn't be this way.

The news should broadcast from all facets of life - not just the trauma of human suffering.

When I find myself overwhelmed, I turn to the things I love.

What do you love to do when you are feeling vulnerable?

Where do you go?

Do you have people in your life who lift you up?

Are you surrounded by a supportive community?

Where is your peace and harmony?

I’m a survivor of trauma and child abuse. I’ve already lived with fear and control from violence from the adults around me.

The feeling of living under threat isn’t a life I want for myself, or anyone around me. Nobody should have to live with, or in the aftermath of traumatic events.

Yet, many of us do live that life.

It's not right. No one should have to endure pain and suffering.

I left everyone I knew as a teen to escape abuse and trauma. I turned away from the chaos in my family and chose the simpler things in life to find healing.

I started again.

I found my own inner peace in a place far away from where I spent my childhood.

My guide was to find happiness and to explore this thing called inner peace. All I had known was trauma, and I needed to believe that there was more to life than suffering.

I chose to be around people who nurtured me and made me feel good. I tried new things and met people from all walks of life. I sought knowledge and education to improve my chances of getting a better job.

Your experiences make you who you are and what you treasure in life.

Don't listen to the news all the time. Choose life that you can live for yourself and change. That's how I found my inner peace.

Where do you turn when your life feels like chaos?

Do you choose a person or an activity when life gets too much?

I often turn to nature because it grounds me and nurtures me in a way no other place can. Nature regulates my circadian rhythm. It makes me centered and calm. A place where I can breathe easily.

I can sit on the beach, dig my feet into the sand, and listen to the gentle waves lapping the beach for hours.

I turn to the hiking trails and immerse myself in natural sounds. The way the trees sway gently in the breeze. Birdsong is high above the branches.

I can stand on a mountain top and look at the sunset.

Once I’m away from the traffic jams, the noise of the city, and people arguing, I find peace.

Where do you go to find your inner peace?
