The Psyche, Symbols and Self-Awareness

Haven’t you ever wondered what it is exactly that torments most people so much that they can’t meditate for anything less than a minute? People close their eyes to witness flashing images that gas their internal selves. Instead of suffocating within their psychological environment, people opt to open their eyes only to realize that their fear was nothing more than fear of their own minds.

And so we sit quietly.

We sit with the knowledge that cultivating an awareness of the environment within our selves is what we see when we close our eyes. It is what sits with us when we are sifting through life. So the question becomes: what do you see when you close your eyes?

The psyche can be described in images. Envision it as the landscape setting of a story, the mood of a scene or even as realistic as a landscape within a physical environment.

Some people have mental landscapes that are clouded with little sunshine and little vegetation. They are left emotionally malnourished and generally experience mental fog. Others have a bright disinfecting sunlight piercing through all things; there is much vegetation and these people experience vigor for life and are fiery in their resolve against whatever may befall them.

Astrology is an introductory way to explain the symbolic images that are attached to the persona of any given sign. Take for instance the pisces. Pisces is the fish. The fish lives in water. Water represents deep emotion, feeling, longing. Water takes the shape of whatever contains it. So there is an element of being emotionally influenced or influential and sensitive to the desires of other people and the self.

Approaching the psyche by interpreting images is an method that has the potential to heal. By exploring your imagination through meditative guidance you can rebuild your psychological landscape if it has been long left untended.

Just as we live in our homes, we live within our selves. Our homes, our bodies are manifestations of how we feel about ourselves. When we find ourselves disheveled, we don’t feel good about ourselves.

It works in both directions.

If we change our appearance, we shift our position and with that shift comes a new perspective, a new vantage point from which to observe our lives. If we change our mental appearance of ourselves — our psychological landscape — we will begin to feel differently and then our appearance will follow to mirror that internal shift in self-image. This is how self-esteem is fostered. It is through intentionally recreating a perception of yourself. At the most fundamental level, the psyche functions through unspoken images that flutter and activate our behaviors and habits which inevitably create our lives. In order to shift our lives to a new direction, we must first regard ourselves as free and enact that freedom through re-envisioning a new self-image.

The world is a series of names, images and symbols. When we learn to decipher this imagery as beings who are spiritual, imaginal, creational and material we find that we can understand the world around us and gain freedom in the ability to interpret and understand our place in this world.

Although there are various ways to walk this journey, the power of imagination and the weight that words harness produces a tool of self-reliance.

Follow your heart and concentrate on you.

For all those who wish to know relationship dynamics better, I’ve developed a poetic symbolic narrative that I will share in the next piece.

See you there.

Remember that in every instance you are the seed, the plant, the tree, the fruit, the soil and the farmer.
