Sometimes I wonder how I have survived this long. I suffered from depression as a teenager and have struggled with anger and rage for much of my life. Rage is not uncommon in my family tree: from murders to domestic violence, it is an all too familiar occurrence. And yet somehow I managed to not let it destroy me as it did with so many others.

I cannot keep a regular job. I left my last actual job after toxic fumes from a leaking product were causing me respiratory problems, forcing me to use my rescue inhaler regularly. Since my asthma diagnosis over 30 years ago, I’ve rarely had to use my inhaler more than once a week, if even that often. I was using it almost every day I worked. That ended when I left that job after exhausting all options to create a safer work environment. OSHA was no help, and, as far as I know, the issue remains to this day.

Monkey Brain Authority Monkey mind alludes to a term generally utilized in Eastern way of thinking and care practices to depict the fretful and disrupted nature of the human psyche. Very much like a lively and naughty monkey swinging from one branch to another, the psyche bounces starting with one idea then onto the next, continually chatting and making an interminable stream of mental movement. It is a perspective described by relentless considerations, interruptions, and a powerlessness to keep on track or present in the ongoing second.

On Being Lucky
He was killed in front of me but the waiting at the hospital was the worst. Maybe it’s me but it all feels like lifetimes ago. I always thought that we would make it, I guess not. Being the only one to get out hurts. He was the first person I knew to die from gun violence. He wasn’t the last either. It changes you. Losing someone always does but it changes you more when it comes from such violence. At his funeral I think I died a little bit inside. He always knew what to do. I never knew what to do. I still do not know what to do. One day he was gone and I never really moved on.
White Noise
If my mind were a room, I imagine a circular, wooden structure with green vines drooping the walls, and dangling from the ceiling. Oversized windows would allow the raw sunlight to brighten the room. The only furniture would be a large, low bed, grand desk, and an unnecessarily large chair simply for reading on. Majority of the wall space will be covered by vast bookshelves, stacked with a variety of classic and contemporary literature. Several tapestries would also drape the walls, offering the room a sense of comfort. Multiple pillows would scatter the floor, though in an orderly fashion. The room would be illuminated and airy by day, but dark and desolate by night - with only the moonlight offering brightness. However, beyond all this would be a black, ancient door; feared to be opened.
