The Meeting

A flashku for an emotional moment in nature

It was a chance meeting, there on the grassy hillside.

You were left to learn the harsh truths of nature

and I was stopped short at the sight of you in my path.

You lay still and silent, as you were taught, braving the danger, seemingly alone, but not.

Somewhere, at edge of the meadow, your mother waited and watched through the leaves.

Both of our hearts raced. I crouched and released the shutter, praying you wouldn't bolt. With a careful step backward, I rose and circled around, knowing that we would both remember this day. Well done, Little One!

The words in bold print were chosen from Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken."

At second line I thought this deer was motherless but was happy when I read more and saw that she was just adventuring with parental supervision! What a beautiful moment to capture, I love that! Great work Dana!
