surreal poetry
Surrealist poetry embodies the essence of poetry itself, drawing upon shocking imagery and lyrical incongruities to comment on the inner-workings of the mind.
Midnight Marlboro
Marlboro’s midnight magic, meandering mist, escapes my lipsCherry lipstick stains the rim of my chilled, whiskey sour twist Faded, tear stained letters lay on the floor, torn up as I amI should be getting better, but I just don’t give a damnThe years have marked my skin - Like a leopard, wears it’s spots A car veering off a cliff, without the means to stopI’m waiting for the bad news, aka, the other shoe to dropI’ve traded in my happiness at an IOU pawnshop But, I’ll fake it till I make it - Because, mind over matter counts I’ll keep on keeping on, before my time has all run out

Red Demon
Context: Malinche (c. 1500 – c. 1529) was an enslaved Nahua woman who helped the Spanish conquistadores by acting as a translator for them. She was also a consort for Hernán Cortés. In Mexico, she is hailed as the epitome of betrayal, as these actions are considered a betrayal to her people.
