I can feel myself falling
The wind buffeting me
This way and that.
I turn as I fall
The open and empty sky reminds me
Of what could be possible.
I turn once more
The harsh and unforgiving ground forewarns me
Of my impending fate.
—————
I can feel myself screaming
In quiet desperation
That silent yell of the damned.
Inside the walls of my mind
A cacophony of sound
That blocks all rational thought.
But outside is silence
No voice is given
To the unrelenting noise in my head.
—————
I can feel myself slowing
The landscape comes back into focus
And out of the blur it has been.
The blood that was pumping in my ears
Slows down and quiets
So I can hear myself think again.
Kind hands
And a kind heart
Are prepared to break my fall.
—————
I can feel myself calming
As the voices in my mind
Whilst not gone, lose their power.
Things previously thought
Just hallucinations of a fevered brain
Become solid and balm my soul.
Your arms make for such a soft landing
And now it seems like
The fall didn’t hurt at all.
