Father. New husband. Wannabe writer.
My journey from "The Journey"
Approx. 25th June 2021 – I was almost at the end of my paternity leave after the birth of my daughter. Due to short staffing issues, I had to short my prescribed time by a couple of days, so I had only spent about 8 or 9 days with our new baby before the shop called me to it once more. It was little more than an innocent scroll through Facebook when I saw the ad, a face in a gas mask, like a throwback to the music video for My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’. Hmm, a writing challenge. I’ve always been a voracious reader, right from childhood, and I once had designs upon writing a book.

Fantasy Football is BACK!Top Story - September 2023
Despite being English, I have found myself becoming more and more enamoured with the sport that the Americans call “football”. Watching American Football in the UK used to be a most difficult proposition, aside from the Superbowl the only way to watch any action was a highlights show at 1am on a Wednesday morning. During the nineties and early 2000’s I was school aged, but after that coverage started to improve. In recent years Sky Sports have added the Thursday and Monday night games, as well as three Sunday matches. Even then, the absolutely baffling decision to host games only on nights when most people have work confuse me no end. But as my interest has grown, I’ve put additional effort into trying to keep up with the games when I can. My wife has since joined me in this interest, but unlike me she is a reasonable person, who goes to bed at a sensible time rather than staying up into the night watching foreign sports and typing up nonsense for strangers to read (4th wall break! Hi, thanks for reading).
I wish that I could remember which person it was that inspired me to write this. I know that she wrote an excellent piece on her favourite books, and that her taste in literature was spectacular. If you are reading this, please make yourself known again, so I can give you the credit you deserve.
Songs to Destroy Me
The brief for the melodic milestone playlist is to create a soundtrack to your life. I’ll be 36 on Saturday, and I’ve had some great times in my life, but you can’t tell a story of a life without discussing the pain. Below is a list of songs that mean so much to me, because I associate them with memories of sadness and loss. Sometimes it is OK to be sad, and when I look for meaning in music, these are the songs I turn to.
This is very much inspired by the image above, which is a t-shirt of mine. I can’t remember where I got the shirt from, but it’s a cool image. I’m currently re-watching the MCU movies with my wife, she has seen most of them, but a while ago and she doesn’t remember many details.
My GB Draft Board pt1
Disclaimer: I’m English. And never watched a single game of college football in my entire life. But one of my favourite aspects that separates American Football from its British counterparts is the draft system. I could, and probably at some point will, rant for hours on the system that brings in kids to a club from the age of 8, as the richest clubs with the best resources hoard swathes of these young children and cherry pick the best ones. There’s a reason that only 7 clubs have won the English Premier League in its 30 year history, 3 of those winning their first titles in the last 10 years.
