never

(told you)

By Sara Published 6 months ago 1 min read

i never

told you

because i know

you didn’t want

me to.

your heart

was closed

like the shadow

in your eyes

and when i

tried to look

you would inhale

white powder

to make it

go away

so i didn’t.

i tucked your hair

behind your ears

kissed your forehead

when you drifted

off to sleep

in my arms

and prayed that

your demons

didn’t haunt you

in your sleep.

i wished i could

take all your pain

and drown it in

the oceans

so you could breathe

again.

but i let you go

so you could

let go

but just because

i never told you

that i love you

doesn’t mean

i don’t.

This is so beautifully heartbreaking. The way you've painted the pain of loving someone battling their demons is so vivid and emotional. It's raw and genuine. Sending you all the virtual hugs for capturing such complex emotions in your words. ❤

  • A very visceral piece. So much buried in each line.

Just when I think you have peaked. Sara! this is stunning and so poignant and so romantic all kinda rolled into one. And that picture, although it wasn't obviously intended....made me chuckle...because all I saw was the explosion at first and then...boom...that sauce that you usually have in there. Remarkable work, as ever. Bravo!
