Creatures of Chaos

Eager faces waited

Pressed to window pane

Staring at a gray landscape

Awaiting a change

In the atmosphere-

A blanket of white

Or the brilliant sun

Turning desolation

To lush green-

A cleanse or a growth

A change to bring about

Emotion that was locked away

Afraid to feel

During the months of stagnation

When even Mother Nature sleeps

Taking her rest

Leaving children unsupervised-

So they cling to their homes

Unsure of their stance

In a world so calm-

Creatures of chaos

Terrified to make a mess

When no supervising power

Is there to repair-

Eager faces fade to dejection

White flakes flutter

Falling to Earth and blanketing all

A cleansing power

Locking all in homes,

Awaiting the months

When the sun will again shine

And Mother awakes.

The title drew me to this, then the image , and the words are excellent

  • For me this is much more powerful as metaphor than literal. I'm from the Dakotas originally & really miss the snow since we've been in Kansas. Beautifully written & quite evocative, whether as metaphor or literal.
