i once mused i was an amalgamation,
a brilliant fusion of life and years
and mastery...
how grand does that sound? to e x h a l e
five syllables, dripping with the
promise of a stunning combination,
a captivating fruition of
coalescing.
yet i was sorely deceived,
hoodwinked even,
the wool pulled over my misshapen
expectations,
and now...
now, i look back and see
where all the twists and turns
have led me.
with each new appellation
added to my life's resume,
instead of merging
surreptitiously,
i've been melting slowly,
fading, fading,
f a d i n g
my transformation
not one of compilation
but a chasm full of grief
and guttered breathing,
drawing in the ashes of a life
freely given,
yet too easily discarded.
i wait, yet no phoenix has risen from
this crucible in flux.
~
which useless nouns and adjectives
will my stone-etched epitaph betray?
will it depict a creature forged anew?
or carrion left for scavengers?
my moments on this earthly plane
may be finite and complex,
but i beg in supplication–
let them count.
don't let oblivion be
death's embrace for me.
let me be a patch-work of lessons learned,
of love overflowing,
of pain survived
all stitched together on a tattered quilt
where only three words remain–
she was fierce.

A soaring entry. Terrific heartfelt work Heather. ☺️ Hope you are travelling well. Best!
Excellent use of '-ion' here!
So well done!
THIS is a gorgeous masterpiece and an incredible entry to the challenge! Wow! Such beautiful words woven together…all the emotions and then YES—fierce you are, my friend! Love this, Heather! Well done!!! ✨🫶🏼✨
Breathtaking and gorgeously written!!
You never miss, do you? I strongly felt the lines, “my moments on this earthly plane may be finite and complex, but i beg in supplication– let them count.” Those words were so powerful and moving, loved the whole thing, thanks for sharing!
Tattered quilt? More like the most powerful quilt to ever exist! You're a superwoman and that quilt is your cape! Loved your poem!
One of the painful sides of evanescence (my favorite word), of fading from memory. But, my friend, I do believe this is my calling, not yours. For you continue to shine in the hearts of so many friends here it would seem your light might never fade. You are the kind of person the best of us aspire to be. And remember, even Mother Theresa doubted herself, that she had ever done anything good or that her life had mattered at all. I know you had indicated you have recently gone through some tough times. If you want to visit sometime, just let me know. Prayers & blessings to you, my friend.
Damn. You sure do have a way with words. Fierce indeed.
Wow, Lil' Sis! This is D.E.E.P. and you most certainly are fierce! One of the best entries I've read for this challenge.
Life is such a fierce wind, a hurricane which we cannot escape. Whichever way we bend it, break it, or accept it. I love the word fierce, esp when it applies to women. The inner strength keeps the voices positive. Fierce you are.....Indeed!
This is just so...true. I feel like you've spoken so honestly here, and there's a lot of ferocity in that act.
You were right. Really really loved this. Epic and such a great entry for the challenge. Well done. I love your honesty, even when it's sad and heartbreaking, but that genuine honesty.
Wonderful!!! Loved it!!!💕❤️❤️
When it's all said and done....beautiful conclusion of life. Crazy how life makes us strong through unwanted lessons. "let them count" my favorite...loved this poem of yours
Fiercely written, Heather. Well done!
