A Sigh of Relief

A heart soaring in nature

As the sun peaks its head over the tree tops,

The birds in the chorus line begin their morning song,

The breeze carries it far and wide searching for the perfect ears,

To right the pain of heartache that is so wrong.

Recharging with the boss of this world — Mother Nature!

As she puts the best on display for me,

Picture perfect blue skies, a hot 36 degrees,

And a bush turkey foraging for me to see.

Glamping at its finest now the generator is purring,

Fairy lights twinkle in the darkness of twilight,

Pink bath bomb in a deep claw foot bath under the stars,

As the crickets hum, bringing musical harmony to a magical night.

I asked for solitude and disconnection to regroup and heal,

Maybe I should have explained that to the universe a little better,

Since it swooshed through with a storm of the century,

Taking out the power, water, phone reception and internet but made everything wetter.

Days without a shower in the sweltering heat,

Sponge baths only helping to a certain degree,

But then a generator roar saw much more in store,

And I luxuriated in the bath to become gloriously sweat free.

Slept the sleep of a well scented baby,

Mosquitoes and sand flies crooning their wish,

But nothing could faze me,

Not even when they dive bombed and gave me a kiss.

The world has disappeared from my view,

As I sit and relax and become someone new,

I appreciate the joy that I’m definitely alive,

Although this year was a heavy one to survive.

I’ve another eight days to sit here and ponder,

Soaking up the ambience and joy of the trees,

Solitude golden — a precious commodity,

Allowing my stress and worries to sail away on the breeze.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
