Mollie, the Black Lab, and Her Shenanigans. Top Story - July 2022.
Meet Mollie We have a granddaughter. Her name is Mollie. She is a 60 to 70 pounds black lab and is about 8 years old. Mollie is very vocal and quite a character. I can imagine her as a human with a snarky attitude. Mollie stays with us when her parents are on vacation and there is never an occasion where she does not use her manipulation methods with us. Mollie loves being outside, hence why she enjoys being here, because of our large fenced-in backyard. She can get annoying sometimes with her constant whining to go outside. Yesterday alone I opened the sliding door for her about 30 times. And whenever I said no, she grunted like a bitchy teenager as if saying, “FINE! I’ll just lay here on your swollen, puffy, hurt foot!” Then lay down on the floor using my foot as a pillow.

A Humorous Tale of Going Buh-Bye With My Daddy. Top Story - July 2022.
I’m SO excited! It’s one of those rare days I get to take my Hoo-man out for the day. I love this big ol’ mook. He’s an awesome Paw-paw, that’s for damn sure. He’s always giving me treats, letting me lay against his leg when he’s busy writing, and generally leaving me the hell alone. Which is more than I can say for everyone else in this house.

7 Life Lessons Learned From My Father’s Cat. Top Story - June 2022.
Her concentration is unbreakable as she crouches close to the ground. Every muscle stays perfectly still except for the tip of her tail, which wags ever so slightly as the only warning to her intended victim. With eyes fixed on one spot on the ground, she’s a statue waiting for her prey to make a terminal mistake.

4 Popular Misconceptions on Dog Food. Top Story - June 2022. Created with: Ollie.
Picture this, my friends: You go to your dog’s pet food bowl in the morning. You pour a cup of food into the bowl, then step back. Your precious pup is beyond excited to eat his breakfast - but you’re feeling a little bit of dog mom (or dog dad!) guilt.

The Cost of Canine Diabetes. Top Story - May 2022.
When I found out that my dog Tia had diabetes mellitus, I was ashamed at how quickly I began to worry about money. I have pet insurance, of course, but the fact that she was considered a senior pooch meant this had a 20% co-pay along with the excess payment. Thanks to her dental surgery last year, I had next to no savings and maxed-out credit cards (pro pup parent tip - most insurance plans do NOT cover dental work of any kind - start saving early, because dental work is expensive and gum disease is the single most common issue amongst elderly dogs and cats). Could I afford her care, I wondered. Not just immediately, but long term?

Fostering Hope. Top Story - April 2022.
To be honest, I had never fully considered fostering a dog until a couple of months before I met Hope. I had this picture of it as a great and noble thing that I wasn't capable of. Then I started seeing frequent social media posts from Dogs Lives Matter - Saving NYC Dogs. This put the mission of fostering dogs into a whole new perspective for me. These weren't dogs that people brought home in hopes of keeping forever (though I would later learn just how common foster fails are!). These were dogs that were dying, that day, if nobody stepped up. I can't say I didn't know that somewhere deep down before, but seeing these listings day in and day out, including the mourning posts for those that never got saved, put things into perspective for me. My adopted dog, Melody, was dog-friendly, and I had the resources to feed another mouth; what was I doing sitting idly by while so many dogs waited in kill shelters for someone that never came?
