Fostering HopeTop Story - April 2022
To be honest, I had never fully considered fostering a dog until a couple of months before I met Hope. I had this picture of it as a great and noble thing that I wasn't capable of. Then I started seeing frequent social media posts from Dogs Lives Matter - Saving NYC Dogs. This put the mission of fostering dogs into a whole new perspective for me. These weren't dogs that people brought home in hopes of keeping forever (though I would later learn just how common foster fails are!). These were dogs that were dying, that day, if nobody stepped up. I can't say I didn't know that somewhere deep down before, but seeing these listings day in and day out, including the mourning posts for those that never got saved, put things into perspective for me. My adopted dog, Melody, was dog-friendly, and I had the resources to feed another mouth; what was I doing sitting idly by while so many dogs waited in kill shelters for someone that never came?

Reflections of Life on Dogwood Lane
The short stretch of street from 25 Dogwood Lane to the shore of Greenwood Lake was witness to both my best and darkest times. Short but steep, the street was made for glorious summer days and tipsy summer nights, when residents crowded the path on their way to and from the beach with family, friends, and lovers.

How The Godfather Changed Organized Crime
Before the filming of The Godfather, mob boss Joseph Colombo met with Al Ruddy of Paramount to review the script on behalf of the Italian American Civil Rights League and removed all references to the word "Mafia." But once the movie was released, it seemed that the Mob's concerns had been superfluous; while the movie did indeed have an impact on the Mafia, it did far more good than harm.

Best Pet Rabbit Breeds
Rabbits make excellent pets. They're relatively easy to care for, but have outgoing and loving personalities. Many people have the misconception that a rabbit is more like a hamster or other caged pets than a cat or dog. However, you can litter train them, they play with toys with you, and can even communicate with you in their own way. Each breed has its own character traits, such as whether they like to cuddle or how much exercise they need to be happy. This makes knowing what breed of rabbit you're looking for incredibly important when you decide to adopt. While there are some basic rules for giving your rabbit the best care possible, every breed will have its own set of distinct needs as well. If you don't have the space, time, or love to share with a more demanding breed, or if you need a child-friendly fuzzy friend, be sure to research the best pet rabbit breeds before becoming a bunny's forever home.

Can My Rabbit Communicate with Me?
Rabbit owners the world over ask themselves the same question: Can my rabbit communicate with me? There are certainly times where it feels like your connection with your pet is deeper than meets the eye. How Do Zoos Prepare for Hurricanes?
Preparing for a hurricane is hard enough as it is, but it's even more complicated when you have thousands of wild animals to protect and care for. While pet owners are generally urged to evacuate, zoos do not have that ability. For one, the stress of travel, especially a last-minute relocation, can harm and even kill many animals. Hurricanes also are not easily predictable. Relocating animals can end up putting them in greater danger, even if they do survive the evacuation process. By the time zookeepers are positive they're in the path of a hurricane, it's often too late to pack up the animals, enough food and bedding for an indeterminable amount of time, and any other necessities onto a truck and face the hundreds of miles of evacuation traffic. Therefore, zoos generally hunker down for the long haul when a natural disaster is predicted. So how do they protect thousands of animals from something as vicious as a hurricane?
