Don't Confuse Schooling With Education
That one line. Twelve words in the first sentence, and yet it carries enough weight to make you stop, sit back, and rethink everything you were told about success growing up. Elon Musk — the man behind Tesla, SpaceX, and arguably one of the most disruptive minds of the 21st century — wasn't bragging when he said this. He was drawing a line. A very important line that most people spend their entire lives never noticing.

“Cock of the walk”
The day I saw Arman sitting alone at the back of the classroom, staring at nothing, I couldn’t believe it. Just a few months ago, he was the “cock of the walk” of our school, the boy everyone wanted to be around. But that day, he looked like a completely different person. Quiet. Broken. Forgotten. And the worst part was… nobody even cared what had happened to him.

Mango Season. Runner-Up in Small Win Challenge. Top Story - April 2026.
The tree was here long before us. It was just a tree, it is almost jarring to say it out loud, in our garden. Neither of us had ever really had a garden. A balcony – a few wonky herbs and some sunflowers between us. But this tree was slightly lopsided with oversized witches’ hands for leaves. Nestled somewhere between the galangal and the lime, it was unassuming enough not to really register as anything of significance. Overshadowed by the raining tree, it had nothing to prove. For weeks, maybe months, we didn’t think about it at all. It was just part of the backdrop. Part of this new place we had yet to know.

Tiger's Eye. Runner-Up in Small Win Challenge.
We should have never bought the king sized bed. I lay in the dark, somewhere between awake and dreaming. I was painfully aware of how far away my wife slept. With our previous bed, we were always close. Her freezing cold feet warm against mine. A hand on an arm. It was something that I never understood to be so important.

Savoring the Struggle
Sweat is dripping down my chin like drinking lemonade too fast, down my cheeks like tears. My husband and I didn't expect this life to be easy, and it isn't. We once again find ourselves in a difficult position. The truck needs repairs, no getting around it, but we also need things like power, water, clean cloths, health care. Just last week I ran the marathon of five Dr. appointments in two days; trying to keep costs down. Travel costs keep going up. My treatment went better this time, which means I am up for the challenging tasks today. How long will that be the case? How will I feel at fifty, sixty, beyond?

Would You Like Me to Help You?
I pulled up at the diesel pump at the local service station. A woman in a small white car was getting out next to me. She was a frail elderly lady. Moving slowly, I figured it was arthritis or joint pain. She seemed unsure and nervous.
