Passion or a Lucrative Being
At some point in our lives we all want to fit in. For whatever scientific reason that I could care less about, we have the desire to not stick out like a sore thumb. Unless of course we become famous through some socially accepted and appropriate avenue. We all grow up taught to reach for some goal, our education is centralized as practically the reason for our existence. Nothing is more important than school and everything else is a hobby or a phase. As much as I dislike the school system but love education, this article isn’t about that, it’s about asking the question where and who the hell am I and why.

Change /CHānj/ - Verb - the act or instance of making or becoming different Change is a scary thing. We all know this to be true. It's like the “monster under your bed” we all believed in as a child. It’s hard to forget about it when it’s something you know to be there but you just can see it, but you feel it's underlying presence at all times. You can get so used to one way of life, going ever day with this comforting feeling of a constant routine. This routine feels so safe for countless reasons. It can make you think, “Why would I ever want to give this up” so it’s understandable when you get even one small, daunting thought about changing your set way of life and you get spine chilling feelings. Even if the change would ultimately be for the better.

It’s okay to not be happy all the time, it doesn’t make you a bad person if you feel sad sometimes; it makes you normal. People say that to be positive you have to always love yourself, no matter what. There’s ways you can have some positivity in your life without this self-love that may seem difficult or impossible.

My friends were recently talking about our housing situation moving forward into our second year of uni, and as you do, we were discussing the future decor and frequent IKEA trips we'd be making to kit out our abodes in the lushest merch possible. We were shown pictures of pristine grey sofa chairs with Scandinavian rugs, with civilised looking women sitting around drinking hot chocolate. This was the epitome of everything hygge, aka. everything Pinterest worthy and thus infuriating (due to visceral aesthetic envy and unattainable beauty). She proclaimed that this is what next year's house would look like, and insisted that everyone will be using coasters so we could exist in a kind of neo-Swedish flushed-surfaced rug-coated wonderland where student grime would not exist. These pipe dreams were of course squashed (student dirt is notoriously stubborn), and one of them said something I think is widely applicable to most things student-related.

If you need to hear some positive words, read this, I hope it helps you look at life a little better. The world we live in can be cruel sometimes, it may be unfair sometimes. Don’t look at it like that though. Look at the world as if it has endless opportunities. If you are someone who has thought about throwing in the towel and ending everything, you are not alone. Everyone has their fair share of battle scars, but don’t forget to thank your lucky stars that you are alive, and well. No matter how good or bad your life currently is, wake up every morning and be thankful that you still have one. “Every year 2 million people die of dehydration, so it doesn’t really matter if the glass is half full or half empty.” Look at life in a different perspective. Be thankful, because everyday that you have above ground is a good day. Don’t let life bring you down, let it build you up. You have 2 choices in life. Either sit there sulking and dwelling, or get up and figure out how you can make things work in your favor. When you get a negative thought, immediately block it out with positivity.

Hello everyone. My name is Becky and I thought today I would talk about my first day in a gym in about four years. I know, I’m not overly original with the title. After a months and months of umm'ing and ahh'ing, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a membership for my workplace’s gym. I got the inspiration from my husband, Dan, after he brought one closer to home and was determined that his membership was the cheapest. Me being me and us constantly challenging each other over stupid things, I picked up the gauntlet and decided to prove to him I could get one cheaper. It helped it was on offer until the end of January and I know I had put some weight on recently due to work, home and life etc. I know I needed to go and the more I kept making excuses for not going the more I pushed myself into going. I’m quite stubborn so someone telling me no usually makes me more determined to do it, even if it is myself.

Ever feel like you're kind of just...existing? Going through the motions of everyday life and not really living? If you answered "yes", then me too! I consider myself to have a pretty good life. I have solid friendships, a boyfriend, a family, and I attend college. I am constantly busy with school work and trying to keep my relationship alive; however, I still feel like I'm just floating here. Like I don't really have a purpose. I ask myself, "Why are you even going to college?" and "Do you even know what you want to do for a career?" on daily basis. I get stuck in my head and my own thoughts are so loud I can't concentrate on anything. But for those of you who don't know what to do in times like these, this is what I do. It may not work for everyone, but it sure as hell works for me. First, I get up. I walk around. Go get a drink of water or maybe make some tea/coffee. I then sit down at my desk and write out a list. A to-do list is the most important thing in my day-to-day schedule. It could be little things like "call mom" or "buy milk." It could be big things like "meet with thesis advisor" or "finish research report." Writing things down has always been a big help to me. And when you get to cross it off your list, you feel accomplished. Like you aren't just existing, but existing with a purpose. Complete all your tasks in order of priority and don't worry about something until you have to. Take it step by step. After you have done everything you are supposed to do for that day, CHILL OUT. This is one of the big ones. As an extroverted introvert, I understand that it's important to keep up a social regime. However, if you don't feel like going out, don't go out. It's important to have alone time and just relax. Sometimes I make plans in the moment and when the time comes for me to hangout with them, I ghost them and pretend I didn't have my phone or cancel last minute. It's a rule of thumb: if they don't text you on the day you made plans, then you don't text them about it (that is, if you don't want to go). But, it's just as important to get out of bed and go out as it is to stay in and relax. If you keep in the same routine, things get old and boring fast. Go and try something new. Explore your city. Go to a party. Go on a picnic or a hike. Just get out and do something. It's hard sometimes to get up and out of bed. But when you do, you'll feel good. And then as soon as you're thinking, "Okay, I got out. I did something different. Now, I'm ready to be in my bed," then leave. It's okay to cut things short or not want to stay out until 3:00 AM. Go home, get in some comfy clothes, and watch some Netflix or read a chapter (or 12 chapters) of your favorite book before going to bed. I know these things may not work for everyone, but if I can help people who feel the same way as me, I am going to do my best. I hope this helped whoever reads this and that you can start feeling important. Remember: don't just be alive, LIVE!
