Quit Playing Around - And Commit Already!

When you commit to the universe, the universe commits to YOU

Should I do it?

I’m going to do it. Today is the day!

On second thought, it is $50. It’s not nothing. I really need that money. Tax season is coming up, I’ve got to pay my accountant, and it’s going to take money to get payroll restarted before I can see anything in my personal bank account.

Maybe I should just wait another month. If I have another successful month on Medium, I can afford to expand.

But maybe I should. I need to follow my intuition. That’s what everyone tells you — act as if I can’t fail.

Who am I kidding? It’s just a silly dream!

I’ll look at it again tomorrow.

Sound familiar?

This has been the conversation going through my head recently as I’ve been trying to decide if I should invest the $50 to join Vocal Media this year.

And yesterday, I finally got up the gumption to put aside my excuses, and do it!

And I was rewarded immediately!

No, I wasn’t rewarded in an avalanche of reads and likes that blew up my bank account like a balloon…

But what I did receive was much much more valuable!

What I received was a sign.

A demonstration or “lead from the universe”.

When you join Vocal Media, you gain access to “challenges” - contests where you can win as much as $500 with your writing.

So as soon as I joined, I immediately went to the challenges, and I saw there was a challenge in my favorite category — poetry!

For several months now, I have been playing around with the idea of writing a poem, in tribute to one of my favorite writers, and one of the greatest leaders of the new thought movement, Florence Scovel Shinn.

My inspiration originated from the title of her book of affirmations, “Your Word is Your Wand!”.

My idea was to build on that and create a poem of affirmations, encompassing every letter of the alphabet. From A-Z.

But I had only gotten to the planning stages, writing down a few lines, and some possible concepts to include.

Now, You may ask, what does this have to do with Vocal and a poetry contest?

Well, as it happened, the contest for which Vocal is currently accepting submissions is for an abecedarian poem. A poem of 26 lines, where the first letter of each line starts with the letters A through Z.

Exactly along the lines of what I had been thinking for my poem!

As I immediately tore into finishing my work, getting it published and submitted, I realized I could attribute all of this to the act of commitment.

To the Law of Synchronicity.

Synchronicity Governs the Universe

Carl Jung, the world-famous Swiss Psychiatrist (and undeclared Mystic), states that the universe is not random. It is organized according to archetypes, and at the quantum level, this is the chief organizing principle of the universe.

This is the Law of Synchronicity.

Synchronicity is the idea that things of similar meaning are often found together. They do not cause each other. But instead, they seem to be created by some unseen third force.

By this force, they tend to appear together in time and space. This shows up as meaningful coincidences in the physical world.

Jung observed this so often in his patience, particularly in the form of dreams, and related manifestations in the physical world, that he deduced that it must be a principal of the universe. A Law that gives shape to the Universe.

What are Archetypes?

ung defines archetypes thusly:

The primordial image, or archetype, is a figure — be it a daemon, a human being, or a process — that constantly recurs in the course of history and appears wherever creative fantasy is freely expressed

Alluding to my love of alliteration, I like to think of them as fundamental frameworks that underpin the construction of the cosmos in both matter and mind.

They are truths that go beyond all human understanding. They are repeated in our myths, our legends, our traditions, and our customs.

In the fabric of our being.

Why Commitment?

By Sandy Millar on Unsplash

Why did I choose commitment to illustrate my point?

Simply because commitment is an archetype. It is a powerful symbol for mankind. One of the most powerful symbols. Many of our legends and traditions focus on it. Our idea of marriage is completely about commitment! So we can see that it has great power.

The history of the world- for good or for ill — is written by those who were committed.

And when you commit — the universe commits to you!

It will move people and circumstances to all degrees imaginable to align with your commitment.

It’s happened every time I have chosen to commit.

  • It happened when I committed to integrating the wisdom of the book “The Science of Getting Rich” into my life, by reading and listening to it some 20 or 30 times, and was rewarded by finding a coaching job.
  • It happened when I committed to joining Medium — and was rewarded by having three boosted poems, and a $250 month of December!
  • It happened when I committed to my future by becoming a Friend of Medium, and immediately had another poem boosted that achieved the $100 threshold!
  • And now it has happened again by joining Vocal!

Now, I’m not telling you to go out there and go crazy. To throw caution to the wind, rack up thousands of dollars in credit card debt, and try to do everything at once.

You can take your time. Go slowly. Follow your intuition and rejoice in your blessings — every minute of every day.

Time is irrelevant to the universe. It doesn’t matter if your success finds you today next week next year or even in 10 years. It will happen.

It will happen in accordance with your commitment.
