The Fear of Failure
How many of you fear the thought of “failing” at something, so much to the point of it even getting in the way of you pursuing some of your passions and dreams? Personally speaking, I have found many situations in which my anxiety over the consequences of said “failure” have actually prohibited me from doing things, that quite honestly, could have been successful, and could have made an impact.

Where Nothing Meets Something
Nobody could have told me that "nothing" was the beginning of a wonderful "something." And I don't mean small, gray and dry something, I mean break out in dance with the sun in your back mirror something. In my nothing, my life began to shine like never before. I could never see it for years. Why? Well, in the shadows of others big accomplishments, ideas, larger than life world renown progresses, I was invisible. I was the shade that we pull down to cover us from the sun, the door lock you never remember unless someone is breaking in your car, the tag in your shoe that is never looked upon. And that space was so uncomfortable, so unreliable, so blah. So, in my loss of everything, but life, I am now without the monstrous beauty of others, but consumed with the fullness of me. And you know what, there is where the magic begins. There is where I began to take life. I began to be seen. And at this very moment in your life, you should be seen too.

Climbing Trees
Climbing Trees By: Sophia Monique Batts Behind RLS, hidden deep in the forested area surrounding the paved jogging path along Forest Lake Road, there were gigantic California Redwoods growing. Jokingly, in a daring sort of way, a nature loving, tree-hugging friend of mine, named Nic, encouraged me to go climbing. He could climb anything from huge boulders on the beach to steep rock walls. Hiding out in the woods, as we sat smoking Camel Cigarettes, I asked him nonchalantly, "What's the best smoking spot you ever came across on campus?" He cheesed at me, his pearly whites glistening in sunlight. He revealed in a slow-paced, laid back type manner, "There is this one Redwood with like the most awesome view ever! I know you could probly climb it. It's hidden, but easy to find if you know what you're looking for. It has got to be over 100 feet tall, easy!" He assured me, "I bet you could do it, if you tried!"

I Was Happiest Making $60,000 a Year
The cool thing is to talk about billionaires. Most of us will never be one. Working towards that goal will probably ruin you in the process. If it comforts you to know, I used to dream of being one step down on the money ladder: a millionaire. It was something I spent my entire day working on.

Stop Settling for a Mediocre Life
I lived a mediocre life for many years. Mediocre was my mindset. It drove me to hide in my bedroom with the blinds down and sit in darkness. My life was dark. It felt cold. I watched everybody else in my life succeed at a business or a career or starting a family. Not me though, I was a joke.

I AM YOU
Dear future self, Hey you. I would call you by your name, but momentarily, you have forgotten who that person is. I am that person and its most authentic, genuine form, and I'm here to remind you that so are you. Currently, you feel lost. You feel alone. I am not here to guide you back, however. I am here to join you, walk alongside you, and to remind you of the importance of you navigating your way back to your true self.

You are not alone
Do you remember the first time you realized you were different? It may have felt like everybody around you changed, or that there was a disconnect. Guess what, you are not alone! I remember growing up being picked on and feeling as though I was on this journey alone. My mom would tell me all the time that I am set apart for a reason and being picked on is a part of the journey. I did not know what that meant at the time, but as life progressed, I began to learn. I was being called to a higher purpose and to get there I needed to develop tough skin physically and spiritually. Of course, it hurt to find out friends were not really friends and family members would speak ill against my name due to their lack of understanding of self but choosing me was more important. When I started to choose myself and love me more things began to transform. For the first time in my life I felt free and safe to be me. No longer operating to please people or caring what they had to say. I started embracing me, connecting with my higher self, and allowing "spirit" to guide me on my journey.

Every Difficulty Has An Opportunity
Life can bring us so many happy moments and wonderful memories, but on the flip side, many times we also find ourselves facing extreme hardship, sorrow, hurt, pain, difficulty, and adversity. We can be dragged to the absolute lowest depths of despair, facing circumstances and situations which are emotionally destructive and utterly soul destroying. They often take us to the point we feel the whole world is falling apart around us, and we fail to see any light at the end of what seems like a very long and dark tunnel. Whether it's suffering the tragic loss of a loved one, battling a personal debilitating health issue, facing the prospect of bankruptcy, being laid off from our job, dealing with a relationship/marital split, overcoming the complete loss of our house and possessions due to a fire, or whatever it may be, it's these sort of events that leave us feeling devastated and crushed. It leaves us in complete anxiety and fear about what the immediate future holds for us, and how we are going to handle and overcome these circumstances and emotions. Like I suffered through, many individuals also battle with depression and mental health issues, such is the extremity of the adversity in their life. It's quite upsetting that so many people take their own lives, just to escape the hurt, pain, sorrow, unhappiness, and misery, they are forced to deal with. There's no sugar coating over these times, they are horrible to deal with.

What would you do if the Grimm Reaper walked in YOUR shadow?
Lurking in the shadows of your life, you notice that the shadow you see isn't yours. You sit there and stare and realize the shadow you see is the Grimm Reaper, just lingering until it is time to go. Did that give you chills down your spine? If you answered yes, then my friend you have been fearing Life this whole time. In fact, we all have but that's because Life was covered by the illusion of Death. Still thinking I might be a little coo coo in the head? Ok well have you ever had the "Dying Speech" from the doctor, or as I call it the "Natural Death Sentence" I call it this because that how we act when were told were going to die. Doctors give a time frame and us humans just take it in and do nothing but wait for the clock to count down. We fear Death because in reality we fear to live our lives. We have expectations and Death is used to keep us scared so we can meet those expectations. When that's the illusion, we are who we want to be. Why does it take Death to make us want to live? Is it cause we know our time has come so, we accept death and learn nobody can stop us from living our OWN life? While you let that sink in for, I will share with you my journey about life and death, and then you can be the judge of which one we really should be fearing. A year ago, I got the "Dying Speech" from my doctor. She told me that I had three months to live if that because my body rejected food. I was starving to death and still am. She told me one fact and its very true and I should have fought harder with it. She told me that even if I ate that starvation will catch up to me, unless they figured out the underlying source that caused this illness. Well, that doctor didn't, I did research of my symptoms. I know you don't got to scream it, that is the worst possible thing to do? Wrong its how you do it, if your just picking one symptom or choose the first scenario you see then yeah, definitely don't do that. I am saying actual research, only you know yourself better than any doctor. I found one thing led to another until I was finally right. The bad side to that is, I was to late. This illness has progressed to the point that doctors think it will reject the treatment plan. I walk with the Grimm Reaper every day. I never know when he will take me with him, doctors gave me up to 6 months, I doubt I will make it that far. My only problem is that I am scared to die but not in the sense we were taught. I am scared because I didn't spend my time living my life while knowing I was going to die. About 6 months in, I have a quote I live by everyday and maybe it will inspire you to do the same. The quote is "Live the Life You Love the Most."
