A Difficult Resolution
2020 derailed most of the things I was working towards. My mental health, which was already suffering, tanked. I was skipping classes because I couldn't make myself get out of bed. I was procrastinating because everything felt numb. I couldn't find the motivation to do most of the things I put on my vision board, which was full of positive energy and reminders to write and study and swim and to be confident. I was stagnant and self-sabotaging and I knew I needed to stop but I couldn't figure out how to. I'm sure part of it was the pandemic, but it was just making the symptoms of my bad brain even worse than they already were. I'm sure plenty of people can relate to that.

The Great Transition
2021: A new year like no other new year we have ever had. We are in the midst of The Great Shift. The Great Transition. The Age of Aquarius. The Era of Strife, Trials and Tribulations, the end of days. Call it what you will, but it is a time of accelerated change, and there is a sense of extreme overwhelm, even hopelessness, and definitely a myriad of emotions. A mysterious virus has shaken the world, and international relationships are shifting. For many of us, our own perspectives and relationships with ourselves and others are also shifting--I know mine are. It took chaos around me to force me to find my inner peace. How did I go so long without it? In this space, I am going to share how I resolve to transform, because sharing new years resolutions is boring, and so last year--I mean era--I mean, world. So, what does embracing a new year in a new world look like?

Goodbye Old Friend
For 28 long years, I have lived in the presence of my greatest enemy: her name is ME. ME is the type of enemy nightmares are made of. Relentless in her pursuit to take me down and destroy any ounce of happiness or hope I may come by. 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, never resting, she is always there, reminding me of all the things I fight to forget; a constant unwavering reminder of my biggest failures and deepest insecurities.

Why New Years Resolutions are Garbage
Let's be real: for the vast majority of us, New Year's Resolutions are garbage. This is for a plethora of reasons, the foremost being that for most people, they simply don't work. According to a recent study, the most comprehensive ever done on the New Year's Resolution phenomenon, only about 19% of those who undertake a resolution will complete it according to their satisfaction. For everyone else, it's a one way guilt-trip into Blue Monday, statistically the saddest day of the year partly because of the guilt of our failed resolutions for the future.

Sober-Curious
New Year's Eve started out with a boutique Pinot Noir, a lovely cheese board, and the optimism implied in finally saying goodbye to both Donald Trump and the year 2020. It ended in a big, stupid, boozy, screaming fight. The next morning, Husband said, "Well, here we are again, the exact same place we were a year ago."

Keeping Track Of 2021
2021 is somehow here. I have never been a resolutions or goal oriented person. It says much about my character because I don't know what I am doing with my life like many 20 year old somethings navigating this world. I have kept it simple for this year after I don't know what happened in the past year.

When many people take the responsibility to bring integrity and authenticity to their thinking and actions, the individual consciousness aligns and expands to affect the collective consciousness
Our body-mind is highly influenced by our thoughts and words. The words you constantly repeat to yourself, have to be enriching you, inspiring you, exciting you and enlightening you. The words you give to you are āhara (food), what you consume to create life in you.

So now what?
In 2014 I wrote a list of “New Year’s Resolutions.” I was young then, still am now, so these things, they were silly. But regardless it was a list. A list, which felt like a step in the direction of being better, of accountability, of transformation, or at least the hope of ...

Embracing Uncertainty
I was fortunate last year. I was able to quit my high-paying, stable job and take a real shot at writing for a living. The downside is that I have a pathetically thin portfolio. One novella published, an unrelated novel drafted and collecting dust, along with the first half of a coauthored project I haven’t been able to move forward with. Probably not the smartest idea during a global pandemic, yet here I am.

Vindictive Vindication
The problem with being a vindictive asshole is that you get type-cast as a vindictive asshole in all aspects of your life. A life, which I can say, is all the more worth living with the spice of spite sprinkled overtop. That's the thing though. Like a person who likes raisins, as soon as you out yourself, people expect you want that shit everywhere. It’s not… necessarily true?
