Do It Right
I once worked for a severely bipolar woman. I can tell you the exact day she stopped taking her medications – April 3rd, 2016 – and she wasn’t exactly totally stable even with those medications. Anyway, one day she told me that during her previous life of working in government, someone told her “If you don’t have time to do it right, you’ll have time to do it over,” which is how people in government positions supposedly operate.

New Year New Me: Not Quite
2020 has been a crazy year for the WHOLE entire world, myself included. I know that I am so ready for this year to be over! I’ve seen so many social media posts regarding the new year ranging from: “declare your intentions” to “walk in really slowly and don’t touch anything.” This year I am going to take a distinct approach to the upcoming year. My plan is to just be authentic and confident, as well as to live my life abundantly.

The Manifested
The sound of blaring horns, and sirens awakened Yemanja from her sleep. She had been living in a small attic at her uncles for about a month now. Unfortunate situations is what landed her here. She’d planned to move to Miami, on the coast, in a studio apartment. Her Dreams consisted of, walking along the beach feeling the warm breezing and scent of the salted water. She’d planned to travel, with her neon pink bicycle with Golden spoke tires she had envisioned many times. Yemanja was only 21 and very new to the busy and fast paced adult world. Something about the water and beach had always eased her and comforted her. Snapping from her day dream Yemanja remembered she had an interview at 9:30am that morning, it was already 8:45am. She hurried to get dressed, all while dreading the thought of working for someone.

Turning over a new leaf.....
It's been a long time since I last wrote a story. Today the 11th of February 2021, I am in the mood to share a new one. Life has been unpredictable with the Covid 19 virus and emotions have been running high with confusion, fear and even joy at times. Why joy? you must say, well ..may be because it has given some of us the opportunity to get that so desperatly wanted family time or even opportunities to just sleep in and reflect , while for others it takes away from the rat race of travelling to and from work or even just getting through a really busy day, where now you may have to walk to your space of work and just click on zoom and you are at work..

Mindset and Maintaining Control
Have you ever wondered how some people keep their cool no matter what happens to them? Life is hard, and we all experience stressful moments. How we react during those moments determines the outcome. Stuff happens during those unexpected moments. While driving our cars, sometimes we get flat tires. Maybe the washer and dryer breaks. Our kids get sick, or we experience traffic jams. We have bad days at work. I have experienced plenty of those moments in my lifetime. Our mindset will cause us to either react or be proactive. My family ancestor Noah Webster defines mindset as a mental attitude or a fixed state of mind.

The Challenge of Change
A cool, airy mist had taken hold among the short blades of grass from the last mow of the year. The mid-October chill of a New England autumn would be wiped out by the strange rise in temperature later in the day as was expected for the remainder of the week. My car was "tinging" and "cracking" behind me as the engine chimed down from the short drive in to work. I stepped into the building and greeted my co-workers as I had done for years prior to today. The computer booted up as I tapped the mouse forward and the generic background flashed white across my eyes. A distant, soft echo of a masked cough from the manager had rattled through the halls and naturally my first fear was that they had come into contact with the now dominating Covid-19 virus.

The Appraisal
They called them “ghost” houses. They being Stan Helmig and a couple of his fellow probate lawyers. Occasionally, in keeping with his duties, Stan had to personally go into the home of some poor soul who had died intestate and try to establish the value of the house and its contents. He usually did so alone, although not by choice. Rummaging through a dead stranger’s belongings tended to creep him out. And if that person had died in their house, well, that would be a very speedy estimate indeed.

Hope Can Be a Struggle
As discussed last week, hope is around every corner. If we open our hearts to a hopeful perspective, it can be found, or somehow it finds us. Hope isn't a strategy, but no strategy survives without hope. Call it the 'placebo effect' or some other minimizing name but it still hope has the power to change the world. There are other forces in the world, and they can seemingly get a death grip once they get a hold of us. Disappointment, humiliation, confusion, overwhelming panic, and harmful scripts can feel like a yoke that is holding you back or down. The weight pulls us into an abyss, and it is difficult to see the horizon. In uncertain times logic has a surety. Hope doesn't appear logical; nonetheless, we have all experienced a miracle moment that didn't fit the expected outcome. Hope isn't an elixir, magic bullet, or a cure-all but rather a tendency. I imagine it as a viewpoint that helps me see a better world. It isn't a trick to use to get your way. It isn't free therapy to the blues or depression, but if we practice hope and lean towards it, even when it feels foolish, it will lift us and keep us afloat. The more practice, the higher we can rise.

3 THINKING ERRORS THAT HOLD BACK CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING.
Most people, when approaching a problem, particularly when the problem is outside of your comfort zone, get stuck and retreat from finding a new solution and resort to using tried and tested methods that may or may not be applicable to the problem in hand.

Better days
Let's be honest with each other for a minute, no one is exactly brimming with joy right now. The world is simultaneously both in chaos and at an absolute stand still right now. Any sense of normality or structure for the majority went out the window nearly a year ago now and for those still required to carry on as normal the permanent knowledge it might cost them their physical wellbeing has got to weigh heavily on them.

A little bit of rational selfishness can go a great distance. When David Steward could not make payroll in his struggling World Wide Technology, he paid his employees before he paid himself. This act of self-interest brought him to a level of an accomplished businessman before his company could even take off into the atmosphere.
