Life Coach Yourself …

Have you ever wondered what having a life coach would be like? Well, this series of seven articles will take you through a simple process to get you started. Let’s start with week one…

Life Coaching week one

Week One:

I want you to start by thinking about your life up until this point. Think about your childhood, your education, your first job, relationships, family, friends. All of these things have contributed to the person you have become today. They have weakened you and strengthened you, they have pushed you towards today.

This is your first step toward change, towards becoming the person with the lifestyle you want and choose. Here it is, week one, Task one.

Task:

Write a mission statement. - A mission statement is a summary of your life up until this particular point. It should also explain what you are looking for, what you want to change and more importantly WHY?

Now, this is not the easiest of tasks. That’s why this is the only task you need to think about this week. Everyone is different and everyone has been through different things so this task can be hard. But in order to move on we have to acknowledge what brought us to this point. We need to accept it as we cannot change it. This task will more than likely provoke thoughts and feelings that you may not know where there. However, in order to truly move into the future, you need to be honest about your past in order to overcome it and move on. Take your time. Just jot down notes and memories at first. Take a few days to think and take notes.

~~~
This task can take a while. That’s why it is simply the only thing we are going to talk about this week. It is the only thing you need to concentrate on. It could take you two hours or it could take you all week. Either way do not rush it. Take your time and think about what you are writing. Your answers here are what this course is about. They are what will give you your goals in life.
Also note that your life up to this point is what has brought you to this point today. So, I cannot stress enough how important it will be to be honest. These tasks are not marked or read by anyone unless you want them to be so for your own benefit and to get the most out of this course the more honest you are the better the outcome. Knowing who you are is one of the most beneficial and rewarding things you can give yourself. But, in order to know yourself you need to be honest with yourself about everything.
Good luck with this task, I believe you can do this.
Time to reflect – I love this part of our 7 week course. Reflection. It really is something we should do more of. Taking some time to reflect on our day. What have we learned? What did we achieve? What made us happy? By reflecting on our lives, we are getting in tune with ourselves and not letting life just pass us by. So, by now you may or may not have finished your mission statement. Either way I want you to ensure that you are reflecting at the end of each day, just five minutes is all that it takes. You may find that things pop up that need to be written down in your statement or you may wonder whether you could have handled something differently. Learning to assess our lives is vital if we want to change things and grow.
I hope you enjoyed week one. Take your time with it. If you need longer then take that time. If you only need a day or two then move on to week two.
