Every morning is a fresh start.

It is an opportunity not to dwell on what happened the previous day or in the past but to focus on what's in front of you and give it all you've got. However, a good day is usually only possible with a well-planned morning.

Starting off your morning without an intention for the day will make you more reactionary and irritable throughout the day. However, you can avoid this by adopting certain morning habits that give you a calm, quiet outlook on the day.

While these habits won't clear out all the roadblocks you might encounter in a day, they will get you better equipped to handle them. Here are 8 morning habits you can adopt to change your life for the better.

Learn to Disconnect

Yes, a great day begins with a great morning. But every great morning actually starts the night before. How and when you go to bed will determine how your morning turns out. This means that you have to put certain things in place before sleeping the night before.

The first place to start is your TV, smartphone, and other devices. To fall asleep faster, it is best to stay off screens for at least 30 minutes to an hour before bed. This also applies to when you wake up in the morning.

You should stay off technology for the 15-30 minutes that you are awake. This includes checking your email or social media updates. This might be super tough to do but the results are well worth it.

If you are really dependent on your devices when you wake up, you can switch to this habit by phasing out your screen time in the morning gradually. Try out 5 minutes without technology upon waking, then gradually go to zero technology in the morning.

Wake Up Early

This is definitely a no-brainer, we know. However, many people do not yet fully grasp the importance and benefit of waking up early in the morning. Early morning risers position themselves for more energy, more power, and more positivity throughout the day.

Waking up early is a common habit of highly successful and famous people. They tend to be up in the morning around 5 AM or even 4 AM. This gives them a lot more control in the early hours as well as the opportunity to complete their most important tasks.

You can set your alarm to 15 minutes before your waking time so as to give you more prospects of waking up at your specific rising time.

Wake Up to the Sun

Yes, wake up to the sun, and no, we're not trying to sound like a line out of a fairytale. What we mean is to wake up to start waking up to natural light. It is not enough to rise up early or set your alarm to 15 minutes before your waking time. You should do everything to make it natural.

Instead of indoor lighting, go for open windows with the sunlight or early morning light filtering into your room. This has the ability to give you the same effect as a natural cup of coffee will do.

Waking up with sunlight also gets you into a better sleep cycle. It feels great on your skin and has a whole lot of health benefits like preventing eye aging, improving bone health, fighting depression, and providing a great dose of free Vitamin D.

Burn Some Calories

Popular and big names from Michelle Obama to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to Apple CEO Tim Cook all have morning routines of waking up to exercise. This is because they realize the value of fitness in their life. Exercise doesn't only make you physically fit but also mentally strong.

Exercising comes with a lot of health benefits. It is also a great source of positivity too. You will go through the whole day feeling active. You can adopt this morning habit by starting out with some light exercises.

Meditation

People have differing views on meditation. While some are good and others bad, there is no avoiding the fact that it also produces results. Meditation is simply a way of bringing peace and quiet into your mind.

If you are religious, meditation could be a great way to get you closer to God and boost your spiritual growth. Meditation brings a lot of high spirits and optimism into your daily activities. It has been proven to lessen stress, create empathy, increase focus, aid physical recovery, improve sleep and sharpen intuition.

Meditation moments can also be a great time to recite some positive affirmations that will help you start your day with hope and confidence.

Hydration

Water is life, and drinking a glass of water when you wake up in the morning helps to speed up your metabolism, flush out toxins, and put your body in great shape. Some experts suggest adding lemon to your water because it helps to protect cells, reduce oxidative stress, aid digestion and provide you with some much-needed vitamin C.

Plan Your Day

Planning your day helps you determine how you want to spend your day and how much you intend to achieve. It is also another great habit of successful people. A good plan will help you manage your time and know exactly what you need to accomplish during the day.

Create a list of your important tasks for the day. We suggest making this about 3 to 5 tasks, which are bound to be your most result-yielding task of the day.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

The day-to-day hustle is gradually making many people have less time for breakfast. However, this only brings about bad news for your health, as it could damage your metabolism in the long run. It wouldn't take more than 15 minutes to prepare a healthy breakfast. Some easy and quick options include eggs and whole-grain toast, an omelet, or a smoothie with bananas.
