A fitness class is not only good for your body, but there are many other reasons to join one

A fitness class is not only good for your body, but there are many other reasons to join one. Your new year's resolution should be to get your body moving if you find yourself in a sedentary lifestyle. Statistics Canada recently found that only 15% of adults met the criteria for 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week. This is alarming, and could have serious consequences for anyone who wants to keep a healthy weight and a slim waistline. This realization made me take the leap and sign up for a fitness class.

Even more, I saw that I was starting to gain weight in the wrong places. It couldn't get worse. Instead of going to the gym, I decided to join a Zumba class. It is much more beneficial to join a class than to sign up for a gym membership. It is important to realize that it isn't just about weight loss. Fitness can also improve your overall health and well-being.

I was a part of StudioFuzion, which is mainly populated by women. However, there are also a few men that attend. People who attend the class come from all walks of life and have a wide range of interests. This isn't just about weight loss, but it might be something you are interested in. If this is the case, you may want to talk with your doctor before starting. Moving your body is good for your health.

Enhances the Mood

You can always look forward to some physical activity when you need an emotional lift. A tension-releasing workout is something you can look forward to after a stressful day. Exercise releases endorphins, which are chemicals that make you feel happier. Endorphins can reduce stress and pain perceptions. Running or going for a walk around the block can also help boost your emotional well-being.

Higher Energy Levels

Do you feel tired all the while? A good workout can give you an energy boost. My energy levels have increased dramatically since I began working out at the start of the year. I'm never tired or sluggish, and I rarely feel the mid-afternoon slump at my job. You might have the same experience. Keep a journal when you start working out to track the changes in your energy level throughout the day.

Keeps your mind sharp

Regular exercise can help keep your mind sharp. Writers like me know how vital it is to keep your brain functioning at its best. To produce the best work, I need to be inspired and alert every day. My brain used to feel foggy at 2 p.m., and I would crave caffeine. Before I began my regular exercise routine, it was the opposite. Today, I can get through the morning and afternoon with ease.

Supports weight loss and health

Losing weight can be achieved by burning calories. Because it is mostly based on dance moves, I love my Zumba fitness class. Although it doesn't feel like exercise, I still get a good workout that engages nearly every part of my body. While I would love to lose a few inches immediately, I also want to maintain a healthy heart rate so I don't gain weight back and then add it again. I prefer to sculpt and tone my body slowly over time. Zumba allows me to exercise and achieve this goal.

What do you do to keep your body active? How do you plan on staying fit in the new year? After the pandemic, we should all realize we need to focus more on health and fitness, so let me know how you plan to take care of your body in the future.
