The little blue pill cannot go above and beyond other health challenges your body might be facing.

There used to be numerous television commercials on the air regarding Viagra. Sexy women would sing the praises of how when their man took the "little blue pill" it spiced up their sex lives. These ads are still around but no longer flood the airways and it might be in part because of a dirty little secret regarding this drug. In addition to side effects, this touted cure-all for erectile dysfunction does not work permanently and for some males, not at all.

The reason is that the root of impotence many times, especially for older men is a lack of blood flow to the penis. If a man has been diagnosed with peripheral artery disease, diabetes, heart disease or had a heart attack or stroke it is wise to check with a medical professional before popping the pill. In recent years I have heard stories of men sharing their Viagra with other males as if taking one of these prescription meds is the answer. It is never wise to take medication that has been prescribed for someone Clogged or narrowing arteries will not allow the blood to flow to the penis as it once did. This issue will not be solved by taking Viagra or similar meds.

An important issue to bring up here is that it’s dangerous to pop pills that have been prescribed for another. If Viagra was given to you, by your health care professional please don't offer it to someone else. First of all this is illegal. A second issue is that there could be life threatening health issues going on that render the pill useless. A third thing to ponder is that the person who takes your little blue pill could end up with serious side effects. There have been reports of men going blind from this drug so consider this possible side effect. This is why men should be checked out by a physician and not take medication that was not prescribed for them.

With aging comes a natural hardening of the arteries over time. I can recall first hearing about this when my former pastor retired in his 80's. I assumed this was a disease that happened only to older males but for some men, lifestyle choices can cause this to happen at an earlier age. Smoking cigarettes, using cocaine, (powered or crack) all affect blood flow to the arteries. Add to this a lack of exercise and a diet filled with fat and you have a recipe for disaster.

Men who assume that using Viagra or other impotence drugs is the answer might be disappointed when the prescription medications don't work. Even if it does, it may only be for a season. There is an old saying that you cannot outrun a bad diet. This means that no matter how many miles you log in a day, it will not override your unhealthy choices. The same could be said for medications that are supposed to give men firm erections.

Poor eating habits and a lifetime of smoking and or substance abuse, along with aging might render the pills null and void. There are also medications that bring along the side effect of erectile dysfunction. These prescription drugs may cure one ailment but cause problems in other areas. I have recently been told that there are a lot more males who have been disappointed with the little blue pills than have been satisfied with the results.

Men over 50, especially black males are at a higher risk for heart disease and clogged arteries. This is why it is i9mportantget medical checkups and to be frank with your health care provider regarding all the issues you might be having. Together you can come up with a plan that might be beneficial. Adding years to your life and life to your years is important for you as well as your partner and your loved ones. Do be too embarassed to discuss these issues because you might be the one to nip it in the bud and have a turnaround in your overall health as well as your sex life.

Viagra and other similar medications are dangerous because if they do work, they might be like putting a bandaid on a serious wound. Men will assume all is well and perhaps not get the medical checkups that they need. Once the drug stops working and other diseases are diagnosed it could be too late.
