Three-Card tarot reading for February 8, 2023

Today I meditated on today’s date and spent some time connecting with the numbers in today’s date. I also took some time to let my mind run wild around the word Wednesday. There has always been something about that word that fascinated me. I started to feel sad immediately, so to warn you, this reading contains a sad message for today. But there is hope. Here’s the reading…

Our first card is that card that speaks to our situation or the thing we’re pondering for our reading today. In this case, it represents today, February 8th, 2023. The ten of Wands shows a man carrying ten wands in a hunched-over fashion. They look heavy, and he seems to be carrying them for a reason. Why is he carrying them? Where is he taking them? Who or what is he doing this for? Over the past few days, I’ve started to see the cards in a different light. I went over the numbers again and looked at the cards in every suit for the numbers, and I realized that my original ideas on the numbers didn’t make sense for some cards. And the tens are one of those numbers. In numerology, ten can be about the end of a cycle that allows for a new cycle to begin. Or it can mean things are really over, and it’s time to move on. But the other thing I started seeing in the ten cards for the Rider-Waite-Smith cards is about excess. And the 10 of wands is a perfect example of this idea. My first reaction to seeing this card was, “that’s a lot of wands!” When I look at the other tens. I see the same thing. A lot of cups, a lot of pentacles, a lot of swords. And this card feels the same way! That’s a lot of fricken wands he’s carrying.

Along those lines, I see this card as a message about burden. About all the things we carry with us in our daily lives. Some of it we need, but there might also be a lot we don’t need. So I feel like this card is a reminder of that. It reminds me to ask myself why I’m carrying what I’m carrying and whether I can put it down. If it has a purpose and meaning to it, by all means, carry it. Keep it with you. Keep it close. But f it doesn’t serve you, let it go.

Our second card is the 3 of Swords. This is another heavy card. This card shows three swords piercing a great big red heart. There are clouds in the sky behind this card, and it’s raining. Swords are all about the intellect and our conscious mind; the heart is a signifier of emotions, and so is the rain in the background. Here the rain symbolizes sad emotions associated with this card. The card itself has a painful feeling to it. This card is all about heartbreak or loss. It could be the loss of an item or a friendship that’s ended. It could signify a loss in the form of a death or a breakup. And sometimes, when we’re in a loss, we desire to let it wash over us. To wallow in it. To let it take us for a ride, as it were. We might put on our best sweater/sweatpants combo and watch old movies with a tub of ice cream or popcorn. Often we let sadness rain on us like a rainy day. And that’s perfectly fine. I think it’s pretty healthy to let those emotions in, to feel them, and when it’s time to move on from them. Coupled with the ten wands, I feel the card lets us know that today might be a sad day. We’re carrying something heavy with us, and making us feel a little sad. I get a feeling that it’s ok to be sad today.

Our last card, the takeaway card, is the Page of Pentacles. This is a happy card. Full of hope and optimism. The card shows a young man standing in a lush green field, holding a pentacle. He appears to be examining it and raising it to see it better. This might sound cheesy, but this could be a sign of raising money. Pentacles are often about financial matters. Or matters of earthly things. That could include things like the work and effort we undertake. Tasks and duties we perform to sustain and grow our lives. Yellow is a color of optimism and hope. And this card has a massive sky of yellow in it. More than 80% of the card is yellow. So there is a great deal of hope in this card. This card can also represent good news coming. The young man is carrying this pentacle. He could be talking it somewhere. Where is he taking it? Who is the recipient? This is good news, I feel. Or maybe he’s bringing money or work. Sometimes a new job can lift our spirits. Perhaps this card is telling us a new job is on the way. Whatever it is, something good is coming.

In this reading, I see that we are carrying something big and heavy; there is sadness around what we carry with us today. It’s ok to be sad. Nothing wrong with that. But the takeaway is that just as there is sadness, there is hope. Someone can come into your life and bring good news, maybe a change in your work situation that lifts your spirits. Whatever it is, there is something good in all of this. To receive this news, we must remain focused on what we want and keep our hearts and minds open to receiving it.
