How I Manage My Neck Arthritis Naturally:
My Journey and Home Remedies That Have Helped Me

I’ve lived with neck pain for many years, always assuming it was simply part of my scoliosis. When I was finally diagnosed with arthritis in my neck, many of my symptoms suddenly made sense.
I’ve always enjoyed researching health topics and natural remedies, so when I found out it was arthritis, I went right to finding out everything I could. I prefer not to take medication if I can help it, so I looked into home remedies and lifestyle changes that would help manage my pain. My neck arthritis brings pain, stiffness, and sometimes headaches. The inflammation comes and goes, and there are times when it affects what I can do. This article isn’t about offering medical advice – but about my personal experience on what helped me. What works for me may not work for everyone, so it’s always a good idea to talk with your healthcare provider before trying new treatments and supplements.
Home Remedies that May Help:
· Warm Rice Packs – my handmade rice packs are one of the things I use the most. I heat one in the microwave and place it on my neck for 15-20 minutes. The warmth relaxes my muscles and eases the stiffness that comes with arthritis. Also try a warm shower and let it run on your neck; that might help. It did for me.
· Epsom Salt Bath – when I had access to a bathtub, soaking in warm water with Epsom Salt helped me relax after a painful day.
· Ice Therapy – although many people find ice helpful, I personally prefer heat because the cold makes my neck feel stiffer. Always place the ice in a towel before placing it on your neck. Keep it on your neck for about 15 minutes, but do not exceed 20 minutes. Apply ice with 2 hours between applications. If the ice therapy doesn't work, then switch to the hot therapy.
· Gentle Neck Exercises – ask your doctor first. Your doctor will most likely give you the exercises that he/she recommends. Don't overdo them, and if you are in pain, stop and let your doctor know.
· Chiropractor – Regular visits have helped improve my neck mobility and reduce discomfort. It helped that I went to see my chiropractor at least once a month. He gave me some gentle exercises to do at home. He also suggested some gel to put on my neck when the pain is there.
· Supplements and Food – Incorporate anti-inflammatory foods like salmon, walnuts, and flaxseeds into your diet to help reduce inflammation. Take turmeric supplements, which help with inflammation.
I also found taking non-aspirin right when the pain starts actually sometimes stops the pain before it gets to severe.
You should see your doctor or healthcare provider if you have severe pain, numbness, tingling, weakness in the arms or hands, or if your symptoms worsen.
Living with neck arthritis hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned that small daily habits can make a difference. While these remedies may not help everyone, they have helped me manage my symptoms and continue doing the things I enjoy. I hope some of these remedies help you as you seek relief. Always talk to your healthcare provider before starting new treatments or supplements.
