Best Running Shoes to Burn Off Your Winter Fat

Time to get your body in shape for the summer.

By Trent CooperPublished 7 years ago 3 min read

Summer’s coming, whether you like it or not. The inevitable heat and rolling waves of beach goers will leave you feeling guilty when you look down at your prized gut you dedicated so much time to this winter. However, it’s never too late to start getting ready for the beach and prepping your beach body to impress your friends. Below, is a list of the 4 best running shoes you can buy in 2017, as well as a guide on what to look for when buying a pair.

How Should My Running Shoes Fit?

The fit of your shoes will determine how well they work for you and how comfortable they will be. Here are six factors that will help you determine if your shoes are too small, too big, or just right.

  1. HeelThe heel of your shoes should feel snug, but not tight. Ideally, you should be able to easily slip your foot in and out of your shoe without resistance. If your heel moves uncomfortably, the shoes are not the right size.
  2. InstepAgain, the instep of your foot should feel safe and comfortable, not tight. If you feel too much pressure on your foot, the shoes are too small.
  3. WidthYour foot should be able to move inside your shoe from side to side without going over the edge of the insole. There should be a quarter of an inch of free material around the widest part of your foot. Pinch this area to see if it is there. If not, the shoes are too narrow.
  4. LengthWhile running, your feet swell and get longer. You want to be sure there is a thumb’s width of space between your toes and the end of your shoes. You should also be able to wiggle your toes around.
  5. FlexHold the heel of the shoe and press the toe against the floor. The shoe should bend along the same lines as your feet would flex. This will allow you to determine the flex point. A shoe that is not properly aligned or is not flexible can lead to a slew of serious problems including plantar fasciitis and strain of the Achilles tendon.
  6. FeelYou won’t be able to get a good feel for the shoes unless you try them out. Standing won’t tell you anything, so try running in the shoes before you buy them. The shoes should feel natural on your arches and support your stride.

The 4 Best Pairs of Running Shoes

Asics DynaFlyte

Overall, the Asics DynaFlyte is a great shoe for going on runs and mild workouts. With superior build quality and a comfortable asking price, it can easily make its way into anyone’s running outfit. However, the colors the company chose to sport on the shoe itself are a little less than fortunate. In addition, the exterior and interior of the shoe don’t support as much messing and sweat-proof materials that others include.

Pros:

  • Comfortable build
  • Stiff arch support
  • Wide foot support

Cons:

  • Ugly colors for casual use

Adidas Supernova Sequence 9

If you’re looking for a unique and rather inexpensive pair of running shoes, the Adidas has really outdone itself. From building a lightweight shoe to its specialty stable frame sole, it is incredibly comfortable. In addition, there is plenty of foot room for those with wider feet, especially if you require more toe room. Although, you do have to keep in mind that these do have a stiffer fit that might not be best for casual wear.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Plenty of extra toe room for those with wider feet
  • Comfortable foam support

Cons:

  • Can feel stiff when running

Nike LunarEpic Low Flyknit

The Nike LunarEpic is a great looking shoe with a near perfect design. If shoe fashion is what you’re after, this might be the perfect shoe for you. Construction wise, the shoe is comfortable and functional. Especially due to its breathable fabric that composes the shoe itself, there is less sweat buildup and the shoes will dry faster in inclement weather. Only one reason that this shoe could be at the bottom of your shopping list is due to its poor sole design that often wobbles and can cause imbalances.

Pros:

  • Durable rubber sole
  • Comes in a variety of colors
  • Breathable construction to allow less sweat buildup

Cons:

  • Bottom of shoe can often become unstable and cause loss of balance

Newton Fate II

These shoes may simply have the coolest design in this list, made in a sporty red and black color. Besides the high comfortability and high functionality of these shoes for serious runners, the materials it is composed of are dependable and form fitting. However, the shoes don’t offer as much support as others which can be a major problem.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Dependable material build
  • Comfortable insole

Cons:

  • Offers little support
