Life is made up of a series of moments in a row. If you have enough good moments, you end up having a good life. It's as simple as that.

And just as John Wooden so wonderfully said, "it's not what you do, it's how you do it." Meaning, it's not what each moment is filled with necessarily, but rather how we are in each moment.

So, because life is more about how we feel than what we do, there are always specific tools and habits that can support, enhance, enrich, and enliven each moment along the way.

Living a happy, fulfilled, and peaceful life is a superpower these days. But when it's all broken down, a happy, fulfilled, and peaceful life is simply lots of happy, fulfilled, and peaceful moments in a row.

So, the question isn't how to live a happy, fulfilled, and peaceful life but rather how to have as many happy, fulfilled, and peaceful moments.

And if you're still with me after those tongue-twisting few lines, below are six daily habits that can be cultivated by anyone, anywhere in the world.

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one" - Mark Twain

1. Get out of your head and into your body

The body holds innate wisdom and truth that gets expressed through gross and subtle sensations. However, the beauty of the body and the breath, unlike the mind, is that it never lies. It's always consistent.

When something feels good, the body feels good. When something feels bad, the body feels bad. That's literally where the saying 'gut instinct' comes from.

So, as magnificent as the mind is, it is far too quick for us to keep up with most of the time so it can outwit us before we even know what's going on. It can send us down rabbit holes, spin us in complex webs, and create confusion, doubt, and fear whilst somehow convincing us that's all our fault.

By moving the body through exercise, dance, yoga, and the like, however, we can connect to the body's innate wisdom. We also get a little dopamine hit too just for the thrill.

With all the stress, work deadlines, zoom calls, online trainings, social media activity, emails, side hustles, and opportunities that we are bombarded with on a daily basis, there's enough food for the head to last a lifetime. So, drop into the body on occasion. Let the mind rest for a minute. God knows it needs it.

The body and the breath never lie so they can always be relied upon. And as long as you're living and breathing, you can access both always.

2. Connect with your breath

The average person breathes between 15,000–20,000 breaths a day. It comes with us through every thought, conversation, scenario, and situation but more importantly, it's the very first thing to change through it all.

It doesn't matter if we're frustrated, angry, sad, happy, joyful, fearful, ecstatic, jealous, disgusted, elated, bored, aroused, or completely dead to the world, it will always be the first thing to change. And because of that, it holds up a great reflection of our innermost goings-on.

It's also free of dogma, judgement, prejudice, assumption, bigotry, bias, discrimination, racism, sexism, ageism, intolerance, xenophobia, and aversion. Instead, it's all-inclusive, non-binary, accessible, free, willing, and available to all living beings all over the planet in every single moment.

We don't have to go anywhere to find it, buy it, grow it, source it, persuade it, or convince it either, it will continue to breathe us regardless.

So, connect to its life-giving power by connecting to some of the 15,000 to 20,000 breaths you take every day. I promise you, it's worth it.

3. Push the edges of your comfort levels

Dr. Joe Dispenza and Jay Shetty meditate for 2 hours every morning before they do anything else. Robin Sharma wakes up at 5am every day.

Tony Robbins and Wim Hoff plunge themselves into ice baths and do breathing exercises as soon as they wake up.

Brene Brown dares to speak her truth, allowing herself to be vulnerable and raw. Amma hugs thousands of people a week to give her love to the world. And Michael Jordan never let anyone set a higher standard than himself, however big the challenge was.

Competing with or comparing yourself against others isn't the point here. Everyone has different needs and certainly, everyone has different boundaries so each comfort zone is different.

But finding where your boundaries are and why they're there is an inquiry that lasts a lifetime. However, the important thing to remember is that every boundary is temporary and "soft".

What I mean by soft is that they're often more flexible than we think. Our comfort zone often marks the perimeters of our boundaries but what lies beyond the comfort of the known?

Often it's where the magic happens.

4. Continue to learn

"Never stop learning because life never stops teaching" - Unknown

Learning a new skill is another form of pushing boundaries. By continuing to seek new information and being open to new truths, we continue to learn and broaden our horizons.

We also create new neural pathways in the brain.

Learning is a form of playing and as George Bernard Shaw so wonderful reminds us, "we don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing."

5. Serve

"No one has ever become poor by giving" - Anne Frank

A happy, fulfilled, and peaceful life often comes from having a purpose.

So, whether you feel called to serve yourself by honouring your own needs and desires, knowing that being the best version of yourself serves the greater good. Or whether you serve others (animals, plants, and spirits included) it doesn't really matter. Service is service.

And it's a beautiful way to give back to the world.

6. Improve yourself by just 1% everyday

"Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity." - Jame Clear

If you commit to improving yourself by just 1% every day, in 100 days you'll be 100% better off than where you are right now. And in a year? You'll be 365% better off. That's huge!

And just so you know - 1% of 24 hours is 20 minutes. So, having a daily practice of just 20 minutes every day is the 1% that you need.

We don't have to do big things to make a big impact either. Sometimes all it takes is putting one foot in front of the over and knowing that that is also progress.

"Success is not a big step in the future, success is a small step taken right now" - Jonatan Mårtensson

So, take tiny steps forward. Soon enough you won't believe how far you've gone.

To recap

Life is made up of a bunch of tiny moments in a row. If you have enough good moments, you'll end up having a good life.

Having a good life is less about what you do in those moments but rather how you feel doing them.

Cultivating these 6 habits everyday can go a long way in making more moments happy and joyful. Heck, even if you only do one, you'll already be doing big things!

  • Get out of your head and into your body
  • Connect with your breath
  • Push boundaries
  • Continue to learn
  • Serve
  • Improve yourself by just 1% everyday
