When buying anything, our emotions get involved. We se something we like or looks good and somehow it appears in our cart.

I go food shopping with a list and every time I end up buy food that wasn’t on my list.

While reciting the list, I walk through the store and start adding items to my mantra.

This doesn’t have to be the case. Some of us are on a strict budget and need to stick to our lists, while others are on diets that require certain foods.

It may seem difficult but there are ways you can go food shopping and get everything on your list.

You may buy one or two extra items but sometimes you deserve it.

Never go Shopping while hungry

A study revealed people who shop on an empty stomach are more likely to indulge their craving. To prevent this, have something to eat before you go.

Simple right? But this isn’t the only things you can do.

Another tip to prevent overspending is to stay out of the middle aisles. Do as much of your shopping as possible on the perimeter of the store.

Your staple food groups are found here, with a few exceptions. However, most snacks and unhealthy foods are found down those aisles.

Be careful if you have to go do the aisles. Impulse buys are not only at the register, they’re all over the store.

These are just a few ways to help prevent you from buying with emotion.

Buy something New

Every now and then its nice to eat something different.

We tend to get in a rut when food shopping. We go down the same aisles, looking for the same food.

This leads us to wanting junk food and impulse buying.

Try buying a new vegetable every week. Never had a carrot? Change that this week.

The more you try the more you begin to realize what you like. Just because something looks gross doesn’t mean it tastes bad.

When it comes to shopping for healthy food, variety is very important to our bodies. It provides different nutrients that our bodies need.

Don’t say you don’t like something by looking at it. You never know what you might like until you try it.

Don’t buy in bulk

When it comes to snacks, buying in bulk can be a problem.

We all have those times when our craving win. While shopping, you see ice cream on sale and you can’t pass it up.

Buy the smallest portion that you can get. Doing so will prevent you from binging on sugary treats.

You will also get your fix and when you run out you won’t want to go out and get more. This is a great way to keep your weight down also. Especially if you eat buy the serving size.

We tend to go for the easiest option too. Snacks are packaged and premade so you can grab it on the go.

This is why its easy to gain weight from snacks, because they are ready to eat and there are so many of them.

Most are not filling either, so you keep eating until you have ad too much.

Review your online purchases

You may not want everything you just brought to the register.

Today, online buying is the same as buying something because it was next to the register. Products are out in front of your face so that you buy it.

It’s estimated we are exposed to between 4,000 and10,000 ads every day. Making it almost impossible to not buy something on impulse.

That’s why when you click add to cart you shouldn’t check out right away. Step away from the computer or put the phone down.

Now that you have cleared your mind, come back in 5 or 10 minutes and see if you really want everything in your cart.

Impulse buys happen everywhere but you don’t have to buy it if you don’t want it.

Final Thoughts

These tips may not work for everyone but I hope they work for you. I believe we need to put more restrictions on aspects of our lives and food is one of them.

The United States is one of the more obese nations in the world and I think its because we were never taught how to eat properly.

These are not just a few ways to prevent yourself from over eating or overspending but also ways to learn how to eat properly. That’s something we all need to learn.
