What Rising Fears About AI Replacing Jobs Among College-Educated Workers Actually Reveals

Is The Problem Really AI?

Since January I have written a number of articles on AI.

In every one of my articles, I have stated that we shouldn't be worried about AI.

I still stand by that belief.

I really don't think there's anything that we need to be worried about AI in today's world, and in all actuality, it isn't even true "Artificial Intelligence".

In fact, right now it looks like the biggest problem we have to worry about with AI is that it makes itself irrelevant by outputting too much bad content that ends up spamming the internet.

Can AI be a useful tool when utilized correctly?

Sure.

But is it something to worry about?

Absolutely not.

YET!

So many individuals are afraid of what the technology will do to their livelihoods.

This is even true among College-Educated Workers, much to my surprise!

In 2021, only 8% of College-Educated Workers were afraid of being replaced by AI.

Today, according to Gallup, it has risen to 20%.

That is 1 in 5 College-Educated Workers afraid of something that really isn't as impressive as the marketing makes it out to be.

So now the question I had to ask myself was... Why?

AI has no ability to be truly creative, no ability to think for itself, and no ability to adapt on its own.

All of these things can only be done with human assistance.

All of these are natural aspects of being humans.

So why are College-Educated Workers afraid of something that can't replicate what it is to be human?

That's when it really hit me.

AI isn't the problem.

People aren't really afraid of AI, at least not directly.

No, the real problem is something completely different.

Do you know how I keep stating "College-Educated" workers?

This is the real problem...

The College Educational system hasn't taught people what they need to overcome the changing workplace with the introduction of AI.

For a number of years, I have talked about how the educational system as a whole has utterly failed its students.

It forces people to memorize facts, stay in the lines, to do what they're told, and much of what is taught today, even at the top Ivy League universities, is HORRIBLY outdated!

You know a College Education isn't teaching people?

How to be human.

It isn't teaching people how to be Creative in different settings.

It isn't teaching us how to Adapt when situations change unexpectedly.

It isn't even teaching people how to THINK for themselves!

Essentially, all it is teaching people to do is how to do what technology does, but slower.

Remember in math class how you were never allowed to use a calculator?

You knew how to do the problem, and you understood the value of how to do it by hand "just in case" you didn't have a calculator ready (even though we all have on one our phones now).

But after you could do it by heart, you still weren't allowed to use a calculator.

What were you being taught?

How to be a Calculator, but worse because you are slower than a Calculator.

Why are so many College-Educated people afraid of losing their jobs to AI?

They are afraid because their College Education just taught them how to do what AI does, except worse because they are slower.

People are afraid because, for their ENTIRE education, they have just been taught how to do things that will lose value as technology improves.

They have spent Tens or Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars on their "Education" for... well it isn't "nothing", but it is worth SIGNIFICANTLY less than what they paid.

So, if all your "Education" taught you was how to do what AI does, but slower, of course, you will be afraid!

However, the good news is that you don't need to be afraid!

All you need to do is learn what technology doesn't do well and become a better human.

Do that and you'll realize that AI, though impressive in what it can do, is not so impressive that it could replace humans.
