Solomon tv

The main protagonists are the mega rich owner of tv empire, his 2 children and the program makers. Mr Solomon has built up a massive media empire over a number of years, as he reaches time to retire he isn't sure which child to bequeath the empire to. His son or his daughter, he decides to hand the control of a failing channel to each child.

His plan is to see who can increase viewers by any means over the course of a month. This can include new programs or changes to existing ones. One child decides to increase standards and to create more high brow television. The other child decides to aim for the lowest common denominator , tabloid style tv.

The series would show examples of the programs thought up by the respective children. The aim would be to try and be as up to date and relevant as possible with daily news and trends. Maybe using up to date inserts to pre recorded episodes.

Father to follow and possibly hinder progress of program planning, adding some good and some terrible ideas along the way. Children's partners to be supportive and to try and help with their own ideas. Maybe trying to increase viewing figures by both fair and foul means.

ideas for shows to be made

make over shows with very unsuitable people, decorators who are graffiti artists for example

chat shows with very angry host that wont let guests speak

Religious program that is happy to show it exists for money only

Cookery program for road kill only

dating show for prisoners still in jail

Mr Solomon- 90 year old media mogul, made money through newspapers and tele. Happy to print or show whatever makes money. Happy to cut corners or push the laws till they nearly snap.

Child 1= daughter who is family rebel, dark clothes, dark make up and happy to follow father style of anything goes. Happy to include violence, nudity, fake news and any populist programming to get the win.

child 2-Son who has opposed dads methods though happy to reap the rewards of the income. Wants to put wholesome family entertainment on his channel.

production team child 1 and child 2- writers and producers who must create the programs the children tell them. To include writers, editors and producers. Although independent of each other there may be some cross over if the grass appeared greener on the other side.

Series to start featuring mainly father and following his work and the channels he runs, also featuring aspects of his media empire. The decision to retire fuelled by threats of litigations from people upset by his company.

The plan secretly being that which ever child inherits the company inherits the litigation. The first episode to end with the offer being made to the children .

The next episode to be the start of the month long test, so recruiting staff, planning programs and deciding what to do with ones they have already. Looking for people to appear on the channel, trying to get adverts and maybe cutting some new corners to achieve the aims.

Finishing the episode with adverts to launch the channels and to give an idea of the content. The series to continue with the new programs and the relative viewing figures.

The series to finish with the decision of who gets the company. Both kids being so confident over who wins that they add a bet. Whoever gets the channel the other will work for them. Finish series with decision that will wrap up the storyline and leaves an opening for the chance of more series.

The anything goes channel will win because a straight laced set of programs will lack much comedy value. Maybe the winner will allow their sibling to run one of the other channels.

Humour derived from family interaction, programs created, competition element, hints at a similar family that already exist, the possible addition of up to date references, rejected ideas and looking at the competition on other companies channels.

Therefore the pilot can be used to establish characters, explain the situation and to set up for a series. The more ideas used can show where the program could go if allowed to go forward.

Hi Ashley - This caught my eye: Living near Hollywood where writers are picketing; such a shame - I'd like to shoot a hole into my TV from watching (60) year old sitcoms. I'm just a retired old fashioned StoryTeller and not into (4) letter word~filler contests or rewards. It's my pleasure to scroll through your 'original' tales among the self described "Creative-New-Ways to Write" Writer's among us. *I've subscribed to you with vigor.
