"Tis a few hours before midnight on All Hallow's eve

A storm is heading this way tonight

Blowing in from the East, the wicked witch cometh

She cackles ever so softly, the kids she promises to boil and stew".

"Ginna, quit scaring the kids", mother shouts from the kitchen.

"More, more". Kit and Kat yell in unison, as kittycat snuggles and purrs between their toes.

"The night was dark, the full moon had hidden herself behind the clouds, she knew that the witch was soon to home be coming. The wolves they were a'howlin, the owls they were a'hootin".

"Awooo, awooo, awooo", Ginna howled loudly. Kitty mewed angrily and ran away up the stairs, the fur on his orange-yellow tail standing on end.

Suddenly, there was a loud knock at the door. Kit and Kat almost jumped out of their skins.

"Ah ha ha ha, ah hahahahahaha". Came from outside the door.

"Who could that be"? Ginna asked, looking scarily at the twins, fully expecting their grandmother all dressed up as the good westerly witch.

Kit and Kat ran to the window. Outside, the moon had bravely showed herself in all her glory. The trees were lovely in their orange and gold majesty. Pumpkins grew everywhere, in trees, on the ground and all around. Leaves of every shade of orange and peach were scattered everywhere. It was truly a most glorious sight. Mother has a green thumb, Ginna always said.

"Don't open the door. It is a real witch, on a broom, a really cool broom and a magic wand". The twins said quite frightfully. "And the sky is filled with little witches".

"Don't be silly kids, there is no such thing as a witch. That's only in fairy tales".

"Nooooo, Ginna noooo"!

Too late. The door flew open and the witch rode in. An honest to goodness witch on a flying mini motorbike, but without wheels, this bike-broom had wings.

Everything in the room began to spin, into a great big vacuum went the entire room, people and kittycat from up the stairs. The house too squeezed itself inside the vacuum, then they all went poof. But kitty had managed to scratch the witch, she let go and out he jumped. He stood and watched as everything disappeared from sight.

Real grandma drove up in her spiffy ride, the house and everything she found missing.

Grandma grabbed kitty and looked deep into his eyes. She saw all the previous goings on and knew exactly what had happened.

"Zelda, you wicked witch". She shouted.

Kitty's whole body of fur spiked like electricity had sparked him, as grandma's car abruptly sprouted wings. She grabbed poor kitty, shoved him unhappily in and zoomed off after Zelda.

Meanwhile, Zelda had everything and everyone flying around her magic garden, they were getting quite dizzy. Pots were still cooking on the stove and candies were still in their bowls.

"Bibbity, babbity boo, to home everyone and everything return and go". Repeated granny three times as her car flew high up into the clouds.

"Matilde, you goody two shoe witch, how dare you"! Zelda spat out angrily. But she was no match for the good witch of the west.

The house filled up with its various occupants and in a flash was home again quite warm and cozy.

Matilde and Zelda threw beams of light at each other until Matilde knocked Zelda off her broom/bike and hurriedly drove/flew home to the family.

"Oh Grandmother, we are so happy that you are the good witch of the west. Mother finally told us all about it".

The rest of the night went well with stories of witches and modern day bikes and car witch's brooms.

I really enjoyed the added touch of the kittycat, it added a touch of spooky softenss that gave the story such cosiness - until suddenly she upped and fought back! Brilliant.
