Inside the tavern, the pirates all sat a'drinking, a'cussin and a 'swearing. Goblets of frothing beer banged loudly on tables and countertops. The gaudy, irreverent jokes brought loud guffaws from the jolly crowd, but scowls and frowning worry stares from the bartender. He fully expected loads of trouble to be a'popping up, the drunker his patrons became.

The drunken lot were busy grabbing at his female servers, slapping their behinds and trying their best to grope at whichever body parts were closest to their grubby fingers.

"Arrrr, arrr, shiver me timbers". Yelled Rai the pirate.

"Yo ho ho, me hearties". Yelled another, his beer flying all over everyone as he thumped it again and again on the table.

"Heave ho the Jolly Roger, heave ho the Jolly Roger"! Will sang loudly, taking a swig from his mug, while froth dribbled down his bearded chin

"Do ya think dat anyone know dat today be 'talk like a pirate day' Jack Sparrow"?

" Naw, I be sure dey do not. Ahoy mateys, wat be ye think we go pillage an rob a few cargo ships teday. We be sure to steal some of de king's gold coins".

"Aye, anyone who be not talking like a pirate, they be sure to get robbed teday".

Brahn, the bartender, stood staring at the strangely dressed lot who frequented his alehouse, and without whom he would have long gone out of business. He remembered when he too, was out on the high seas, giving what for to the ships and king's soldiers. But, he had lost his leg and almost died a few years back. Now he owned and operated this den of ill repute.

How he missed those days.

Now someone had invented talk like a pirate day. Brahn was never more proud than he was on this day.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers of Albany, Oregon, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. It has since been adopted by the Pastafarianism movement as an official holiday.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) is the deity of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or Pastafarianism, a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion. It originated in opposition to the teaching of intelligent design in public schools. According to adherents, Pastafarianism (a portmanteau of pasta and Rastafarianism) is a "real, legitimate religion, as much as any other". It has received some limited recognition as such.

Touched by His Noodly Appendage, a parody of Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam, is an iconic image of the Flying Spaghetti Monster by Arne Niklas Jansson

The 'talk like a pirate' holiday resulted from a sports injury. During a racquetball game between Summers and Baur, one of them, in pain, said, "Aaarrr!" and the idea was born. The game took place on June 6, 1995, but out of respect for the observance of the Normandy landings, they chose Summers' ex-wife's birthday, as it would be easy for him to remember.

"Cap'n Slappy" and "Ol' Chumbucket", the founders of Talk Like a Pirate Day

At first an inside joke between two friends, the holiday gained exposure when Baur and Summers sent a letter about their invented holiday to the American syndicated humor columnist Dave Barry in 2002. Barry liked the idea and promoted the day, and later appeared in a cameo in their "Drunken Sailor" Sing Along A-Go-Go video. Michigan Filk musician Tom Smith wrote the original "Talk Like a Pirate Day" song in 2003.

Filk music is a musical culture, genre, and community tied to science fiction, fantasy, and horror fandom and a type of fan labor. The genre has existed since the early 1950s and been played primarily since the mid-1970s. The genre has a niche but faithful popularity in the underground.

"Shiver me timbers"!
