Good bye is so permanent.
I was 21, the world was mine for the taking. I had big plans for myself. I wanted to finish my diploma, and then get a cosmetology license. From Detroit, I was going to head to Dallas when I had saved enough and completed my education.

Fifty Roses
Written by, Joshua L Prentice Fifty Roses Flash Fiction, Romance Do you remember your first love? Probably not I thought to myself as I sat quietly in deep thought at my desk. Even if I had one it would seem like an eternity ago. I remember certain things in a vague manner. But after my car accident two years ago I have a hard time remembering what I ate for breakfast this morning. Much less who my first love was. My recovery has been a painful journey. From the hospital bed to starting a new job. I have been through hell. Yet I am still trying to hold it together as best as I can. Having work has been a life saver in a huge way though. It keeps me focused on the more productive side of life. But something’s missing. I know what it is it’s always been very evident even before my accident. I need to be loved by someone positive. Someone who adores me for me. But alas I feel that I will never find such a love. I guess I’ll just have to settle for work because I’m obviously not meant to be in love in any way. I worked the rest of the day, and went home like I usually do every day. I stopped over thinking about the subject, and when I got home, I started fixing myself dinner. Afterwards I sat in my dining room, and ate alone while reading a book as usual. As I ate the phone rang. I tried to ignore it at first, but it just would not stop after the third time it rang, I got up, and picked it up, and asked who it was. Its your brother John said the person on the other line well I responded it’s been a long time why are you calling now. He replied I ran into an old friend of yours from high school. He wanted me to give you his number. I responded with ok John I’ll take it what’s his name, and number. His name is Justin Foyer, and his phone number is {xxx-xxx -xxxx} have a good one Maggie said John. I responded with you to John. As soon as I hung up, I sat as I finished my dinner trying to remember this high-school friend. That seemed to remember me. I gave myself a bit of a headache trying to. So I went to bed extra early that night. As I laid there sleeping, I had a very graphic dream that revealed the high-school friends’ identity to me. Afterwards I woke up to my alarm clock going off loudly. It was now 4:00am. I got up, and took my shower, brushed my teeth, and ate my breakfast. Afterwards I watched the morning news until 6:30am. Then I left for work. Only to find out that it was the weekend, and work was closed afterwards. Feeling ridiculous for mistaking the days of the week. I went to a coffee bistro right down the road from my apartment. To enjoy a nice frappe. I sat there reading my book when the most ironic thing happened. That high-school friend that wanted my number, he walked into my life once again while I was sitting enjoying my coffee. I was a little timid of speaking to him. After all the last time we spoke was over 30 years ago. But I went up to him anyway. You know what they say fortune favors the bold. I rolled my wheelchair up to him, and tapped him on his shoulder. He somehow remembered me because he turned around, and smiled at me, and spoke to me saying Maggie it’s been a long time. I was just about to call you your brother gave me your number earlier this morning. How have you been. I smiled right back at him, and replied I’ve been ok. He patted me on my shoulder, and asked if he could sit, and have coffee, and a muffin with me. I responded with absolutely. So we sat, and talked about our younger years, and how wild we were. Of course all I did was really listen as I could barely remember my youth, but I still truly enjoyed his company. An hour had past before you knew it and he smiled, and asked me out to dinner that night. I responded with yes, I would love that. He grinned, and said right your address down, and I’ll send my driver to pick you up later tonight then h he

My fairytale in a pandemic
For the past year, we have all been through emotional times since the announcement of a global pandemic at the beginning of 2020. We have been through budgeting troubles, loss of jobs, and businesses being shut down. There has been sickness and death. Restrictions and shutdowns. The list goes on. We are all living on the same earth, but not living in the same story.

The Change
At times in his life, Robert longed for the cherished summer days and the comfort and safety of his youth. He’d spent the first 18 years of his life in St. John's Newfoundland, a city with less than 100,000 people. For most of those years, he lived in a small rural area on the outskirts, where everybody knew you and your family. It was a perfect place for kids to grow up, especially during summer break. The houses all backed onto the forest, where the kids would play all day; exploring, climbing trees and swimming and fishing in the many small rivers and ponds. It was where kids grew up learning the value of helping others, and being honest. These values, he discovered when he moved to Toronto, were not held by everybody.
