It was just a few years ago that the media warned us about imminent danger at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife Zoological Gardens where lions looked to be seriously starved. At that time, it was reported that the animals which used to be fed pigs on a daily basis had stopped getting steady feeding since the Prof. Eyitope Ogunmodede led administration started in June of 2017. The lions were reportedly being fed about three times a week and their food had become severely rationed. At the time, a source said: "The situation at the gardens continues to degenerate by the day; I really pity the attendants in charge of the animals; these animals could become more aggressive and deadly as a result of starvation"
