As we enter a new year, we often make a variety of goals for ourselves. These may include things like improving our fitness, saving money, acquiring new knowledge and many more. However, as the year comes to an end, we often realize that many of the goals we set out to achieve at the beginning of the year have gone unfulfilled. This can be a frustrating cycle that we may repeat year after year. If you find yourself stuck in this pattern, then this article is for you.

Reasons why we may struggle to achieve our goals

We often set unrealistic expectations for ourselves. We may have grand plans to overhaul our entire lives in a single year, when in reality, meaningful change takes time. Instead of setting lofty goals that are difficult to achieve, it may be more beneficial to set smaller, more achievable goals. This can help you build momentum and increase your chances of success.

Another reason why we may struggle to achieve our goals is that we don't have a clear plan of action. Simply stating that we want to "lose weight" or "save money" is not enough. We need to have a specific plan in place to help us achieve these goals. This might include things like creating a budget, finding a workout plan, or seeking out resources to learn a new skill.

Less Is More

I have started following the concept of "Less is More." We don't need to push ourselves too hard and risk burnout. Instead, by progressing slowly and consistently, we can achieve our goals.

It may be tempting to set many goals for ourselves, but it is important to remember that quality is more important than quantity. By focusing on a few key goals that are truly important to us, we can increase our chances of success and lead more fulfilling lives.

I believe that "less is more" can be very effective, as I discovered in 2022 when I decided to earn some money through an online business. My goal was simple: to start earning something. As a programmer, I knew I could provide solutions to people who needed them. However, I found that many freelance websites had high competition among programmers.

I was looking for a way to speak to clients directly and provide solutions. One day, while scrolling through Facebook group feeds, I saw a post from someone who needed a program and was willing to pay $25 for it. I immediately messaged the person, proposing what I could do. The client was interested and I delivered the solution. I received the payment of $25, which was my first payment from a stranger for providing a solution. I have also made upselling to the same client and I earned more.

This experience showed me that instead of just planning for a high target, I should always take my goals step by step and progress slowly. I started with the goal of just "earning something" and not something fancy, and ended up making money progressively.

It's also important to be realistic about the time and effort that achieving our goals will require. Many of us have busy lives and competing demands on our time. We need to be mindful of the time we have available and set goals that are realistic given our current life circumstances.

In conclusion, achieving our goals is not always easy, but it is possible. By setting realistic expectations, having a clear plan of action, being mindful of the time and effort required, and applying the concept of "less is more", we can increase our chances of success. And most importantly, we should be kind to ourselves, it is normal for us to not achieve all of our goals, instead we can learn from our past experiences and improve for the future.

Better to progress little than not progressing at all.

Keep this mantra in mind, Less is more.
