Consumerism , Negativland and Pepsi
Coca Cola or Pepsi or Coke or Negativland It's 3AM and because it's Saturday I don't really have to get up for a few hours. Yesterday I had to get up for work and I was really tired, but when you don't have to get up , you can be up during the night and do things like write blog posts. I'm sitting here with a bottle of Coke, well Diet Coke (though I have just noticed it only mentions the name Coca-Cola in very small writing on the label.

The Beauty of the Kardashians
Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kylie, Kris, Caitlyn and Kendall… It seems like we have always lived with the Kardashians, or even attempted to keep up with them (a little joke for those who know), and it seems like they are now an institution that we all love and enjoy.

A Viking Ship, a $6,000 Bill, and the Blockbuster That Forgot to Pay
In the summer of 2026, The Odyssey crossed $700 million at the global box office by its third weekend. Christopher Nolan's name was once again printed at the top of every review, with praise centered on practical filming, IMAX stock, and that "old‑world craftsmanship" feel.

Wonder Woman Is Bigger Than Any Actor

Eleven Ships. Three Minutes. No CGI.
The first stone left the cliff edge while the sea was still green. Over two meters in diameter, limestone, its surface crusted with dried barnacles. It took roughly four seconds to punch through the deck of the first ship. The wood split from the center, cracks racing toward bow and stern like an invisible blade had sliced it clean down the middle. There were seventeen oarsmen aboard. They were furling the sail when the stone landed. No one looked up.

Getting Started at Fantasia…Again…
It was good to be back. I did not know that I would really enjoy my return to the Fantasia Film Festival (July 16th to August 2nd) in Montreal. I realized that my money would last beyond the end of the college semester earlier in the year, and the private contracts that would run out over the summer…but things are not perfect. And I knew that another summer of scrounging for jobs and sending out too many applications for too little would be nothing but a sad way to enjoy it. There was the festival, and it was my fifth (?) year as a volunteer…if I decided to jump back in.

Love the modern Mickey Mouse cartoons.
I recently found some Disney cartoons that reminded me of the old-school Mickey Mouse cartoons. I recall the slapstick comedy, the dancing, and the social interaction with the sensational six (Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Pluto). You may have seen them on Disney+; they're called The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse and Mickey Mouse shorts. Unlike most shows about Mickey Mouse I have found, which are mostly for children in preschool and elementary school and teach essentials like counting, shapes, colors, respecting others, and singing.

Overconsumption is Consuming Our Dignity
Scrolling on TikTok, you’re quick to find the next trending product. You’ll find anything from understandable buys like Stanley Cups to toys destined for the landfill like Dumpling squishies. It isn’t like fashion trends haven’t been around for hundreds of years, polka dots were a short fad in the late 1800s after all, but the lifecycle of trends has drastically decreased in recent decades. The rise of social media is a key cause behind this change.
