Bad Apples (2026)
2026 seems to be the cinematic year of the Black Comedy. The world is dark and we need some comedy. We can’t laugh lightly, so we have to laugh with cynicism and fear. Gentle humour feels twee and inadequate as we face brutal truths about our politicians, our climate and some fellow human beings. Cinema is a place to escape, but we can’t quite shake off our cynicism and depression.

Not Every Teen Movie Needed a Detention Room By 1985, the teen movie had become its own little industry. The Breakfast Club had turned a Saturday detention into a cultural event. The Karate Kid transformed teenage insecurity into a martial-arts fairy tale. Footloose was getting ready to make dancing look like an act of rebellion.
