Did you know that if you drink Oolong tea it can benefit weight loss?

Have you tried it?

I discovered Oolong tea by accident and now I drink it regularly. It fits into my daily lifestyle and it has made me feel healthier and brighter.

I wrote about it briefly in my previous article so I wanted to share what I have experienced in more depth.

I have been drinking Oolong tea for a while now. It has curbed my bad eating habits along with boosting my metabolism. I am also doing the 7-day Chemical Diet where you can lose a stone this week so drinking Oolong tea has helped me not to crave food.

Oolong tea is made from the leaves, buds, and stems of the Camellia sinensis plant. Oolong tea is slightly fermented and semi-oxidized, giving it a taste in between black and green teas. The best Oolong tea comes from the Fujian province of China.

Oolong tea is known to provide robust health benefits when consumed regularly. It is packed with antioxidants. Oolong leaf is combined with catechin and caffeine which fight free radicals.

Where can you get Oolong tea?

Oolong is, also, used for its healing properties and can be found in most health shops or bought online. I bought a pack of Oolong tea made by Birk and Tang in Holland and Barrett. You can find Oolong tea on Amazon worldwide.

Oolong tea can help with the following things

1. Boosts your metabolism, which causes weight loss. Drink a cup of Oolong tea in the morning when you wake up, before lunch and before dinner. Although, I drink much more than that throughout the day. I have drunk it daily for a week now. It is definitely working for me and I have already lost 4 pounds. You can buy other strains of Oolong tea which may have a stronger taste to it.

2. Lowers Cholesterol and promotes heart health. Oolong tea is semi-oxidized, which produces polyphenol molecules. This helps to dissolve body fat. Researchers in China discovered this which is stated in Medical News Today:

“They found that people who drank at least 10 ounces of oolong tea per week had lower risks of having high total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL or “bad” cholesterol levels. The same was also true of people who drank similar amounts of green and black teas.”

3. It increases mental alertness because it contains caffeine

4. Aids digestion in reducing inflammation for those who suffer from acid reflux and ulcer problems.

5. Promotes healthy hair due to having many antioxidants in Oolong tea.

6. Gives you healthy-looking skin.

7. Stabilizes blood sugar if you have type 2 diabetes

.8. Prevents tooth decay.

9. Prevents osteoporosis and gives you strong bones.

10. Oolong tea strengthens the immune system. Drinking it can prevent cancer. In one study, it states that Oolong tea can kill cells in breast cancer. In Medical News Today it states:

“Scientists have investigated the potential benefits of green tea for breast cancer and found that certain compounds have anti-cancer effects.”

Oolong tea drinkers and breast cancer

Chunfa Huang, Ph.D., who is an associate research professor at the department of internal medicine at Saint Louis University in Missouri, led the new research and published his findings in the journal Anticancer Research. In Medical News Today it states the following:

The extracts of green and oolong tea stopped the growth of all types of breast cancer cell. In contrast, black and dark tea extracts had no effect on the cells. Huang and team conclude:

“Oolong tea, same as green tea, can induce DNA damage and cleavage, play an inhibitory role in breast cancer cell growth, proliferation, and tumorigenesis, and [it has] great potential as a chemopreventive agent against breast cancer.”

How much Oolong tea should you drink?

When I drink Oolong tea I steep the teabag in not so hot boiling water and leave it for 5 minutes. Sometimes I just drink the tea with the teabag still in it.

You are supposed to have 4 cups of Oolong tea per day according to what I have read, but I have sometimes drunk at least 6 cups in one day and it made me feel great. I did feel a little tea drunk occasionally when I drank too much of it but that’s if you consume more than 3 cups very quickly in a short space of time.

The Spruce Eats website states:

“Tea drunk can include positive and euphoric feelings.”

“With the feelings of euphoria, there can be a strong sense of focus and calm. Tea drinkers may experience acceptance of the world, a feeling of contentment, and pleasing lightheadedness or sense of floating. Others list symptoms such as a giggling, a bouncy feeling, a feeling of emotional bliss, a contemplative or philosophical mindset, or an introspective, sensitive mood. The overall effect is often described as a very Zen feeling. As with most experiences, these side effects will vary by the individual, are hard to predict, and are impacted by a number of different factors.”

“Some varieties of teas that may result in tea drunkenness are oolong (especially Tieguanyin oolong), shade-grown Japanese green tea (like matcha green tea and Gyokuro green tea), or aged Pu-erh tea. Pu-erh tea is a variety of tea made from fermented and oxidized tea leaves.”

So, if Oolong tea is something you want to try then I recommend it wholeheartedly.
