Ingredients of South Indian Appe

  • 1 Cup dosa/idli batter (or overnight soaked and ground rice and urad dal mix)
  • 1/4 cup onions
  • 1/4 cup carrots , grated
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 1/2 tsp ginger , grated
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

How to Make South Indian Appe

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the dosa or idli batter with the chopped onions, grated carrots, chopped coriander leaves, grated ginger, cumin seeds and salt to taste. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined.
  2. Heat the appe pan on medium heat and brush each of the moulds with a little oil.
  3. Once the pan is hot, pour the batter into each of the moulds, filling each about three-quarters full.
  4. Cover the pan with a lid and allow the appe to cook for about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Once the edges of the appe start to brown and become crispy, use a spoon or fork to flip each appe over.
  6. Allow the other side of the appe to cook for another 2-3 minutes or until it becomes golden brown.
  7. Remove the appe from the pan and transfer them to a plate.

Serve hot with your favourite chutney or dip. Enjoy!
