Summer Treats Are Back
Summertime is here and so are everyone’s favorite summertime foods. There are so many choices, fresh fruits, clam bakes, grilled specialties, mountain pies, fresh tomatoes, corn on the cob, s’mores, but I gravitate to carnival fare. Just walking through the local carnival and fairs you see them, you smell them, kettle corn, snow cones, candy apples, fried dough, food on a stick, and…funnel cakes. To me, there is nothing better.

Not Your Typical Mexican Food
On our walking tour of Oaxaca, we met a fantastic collection of people and we all met up for dinner that evening. Tommy, a brilliantly funny scouser ordered a famous Oaxacan dish, mole with turkey. It arrived at the table and he exclaimed:

Six Most Favorite Healthy Breakfast Beverages You Must Try
After eight or seven hours of sleep and not drinking any liquid, our body can automatically feel drained. In the morning, not drinking enough fluids or having a proper meal is the biggest reason we always feel tired and deprived of energy. There is no denying that breakfast is the first and essential meal of the day. But many people tend to skip breakfast most of the time because they are running late. The tight schedule does not allow to consume a full of nutrients breakfast in the morning. As a result, half of the people continue working without eating anything. The other half of the people will get any unhygienic food items from the supermarket.

Possibilities Are Still Out There
I can’t help but reminisce about childhood whenever I think of summer. As adults we obviously still have summer, except ours are filled with a considerably higher amount of work versus play. Gone are the days when you could just go to the beach all summer long and build sandcastles under the Sun without a care in the world. Adulthood is full of responsibilities whereas childhood is full of possibilities. And for a kid in summer, nothing screams possibilities like an approaching ice cream truck.

Watermelon Sugar High
Summer has been my favorite season from the time I was a kid. Summer means bright sun in blue skies, no schedule, lake days, back yard baseball games and rounding it all off with my favorite meal of my father's slider burgers, pan fried potatoes, fresh cut watermelon and corn on the cob. I can feel the breeze hitting my face as the wasps swarm our plastic plates on our back patio.

Camp Food
Going on camp in the school holidays was always exciting, making new friends, taking on new responsibilities, and the best was exploring the kitchen when it was your turn to cook for the whole camp. Under supervision of course. It was so exciting playing with gadgets never before seen. My favourite was the toaster where you can toast rows and rows of bread at once. All you had to do was lay the bread down flat in single rows of four and the the machine would slide the bread through the heated grills and out they would pop on the other side ready for stacking, then to be served.

Handmade Mango Ice Cream in an Indian Summer
The first day of school holidays has a special place in my heart. The day usually started with an exam and ended with an end of the year party. And then even better, I would go back home, draw the curtains against the blinding afternoon sun, lie down and read my favorite novel.

Taste of Summer
Summer. Fire rages, fueled by a seemingly endless supply of gas. Within metal housing, the flames heat everything surrounding it. Soon the air is two hundred, three hundred, four hundred degrees. Unable to escape, the molecules speed up, faster and faster they accelerate. After a time, the roof is removed—it doesn’t collapse like in a normal fire, but rather swings away, still visible from below. The metal floor is unbearable—all life on it has extinguished as the fires burn.

Nostalgia in a Bowl
There’s little else more iconically nostalgic than mac n’ cheese. From a box, from Grandma’s recipe, almost everyone has memories of pasta bathed in cheesy sauce, topped with pepper, hot sauce, or just as is. In a bowl or straight out of the pot, we just can’t seem to get enough of the orange goop.

You scream... I scream
Sweat dripping, mouth open almost panting you shriek “give it to me” as you reach for the joy in a bowl, the sweet melting cold and creamy ice cream your mom had set down a moment ago and your brother ran up and swiped both bowls. Your brother laughs as he runs away with yours taunting you.

Snow Cone Summer
I had a love/hate relationship with summer as a kid. My mom, however, had no qualms about her feelings. She hated summer vacation. The first couple of days were full of laughter and playing, but by the third day, she would start to hear murmurs of “I’m bored,” and wonder if she could survive another summer vacation. Mom loved us, but she did not like hearing us complain about boredom all summer.
